Jazz Standards: Easy Piano Budget Books

Kudos to the arranger(s). The tunes are easy sight reading for a mid-level player, and there are a lot of them. The only issue is the paper. It is almost the weight of newsprint. I guess that's why the publisher calls it a "Budget Book."

perfect. easy arrangements for intermediate piano player. Most, i can sight read immediately, but this will vary for you, depending on your sight reading level. I use this to play at nursing homes, and it is fabulous for that. It would be so easy for me to give this five stars. The selections are absolutely wonderful. As someone who can ad lib on the piano, I also like the fact that the chord symbols (e.g., C, Ab, D#, etc) are provided above the staff. BUT, with that said, I will echo what others have said, which is that there is a good deal of page-turning.I feel that if the publisher would have used slightly smaller type and put less space between the staves, the problem might not be as bad. Don't get me wrong, the page turning is not overly bad, but it SEEMS bad because every song that I have seen requires at least one page turn. Most songs seem to be four pages. This would require one page turn. If this were a spiral-bound book, it might not be so cumbersome, but having to turn the page and secure the page, and then start playing again can be a bit annoying. There are at least two songs that are six pages long, so that is two page turns.If you are the kind of musician who is going to work on memorizing this material, then I would say that this design is OK, as long as you have time to memorize the music. If, however, you are going to use this book during a performance, you will want to copy the pages (yes, I believe it is OK to copy for YOUR use, as long as you do not give the copied pages or the book to someone else, while you keep the copied pages)...and, you will have to copy quite a few, as in probably all, songs this way.I absolutely love the music in this offering, I just wish there was a better design. Publishers have been doing the same thing for decades. It is time for them to jump out of that box and make a change.

Overall I'm happy to have ordered this book. I adore standards, but most are too complicated for me. (I had an outstanding classical teacher for three years as a junior high schooler decades ago and just came back to playing last spring at advanced age of 67!) The best skill I possess is reading music and having the feel for the poetry of it...but my level of play hovers between advanced beginner and intermediate intermediate. There are a lot of the great classic standards, although I still want more. The treble/melody line in easy and pleasurable to play, but the bass line is too simple even for me. Occasionally the composition, i.e., Autumn in New York, has enough arpeggio to have a lovely resonance; but most are skeletal. Still a lot of fun and I'm glad I have the book to build up my skills while actually playing many of my favorites. If you have a keyboard with voices of jazz organ, electric piano, vibraphone, etc., you can kind of make up for the lack of bass accompaniment.Now I'm on the hunt for something like one of the intermediate Faber books (they are great but not enough of them)that contains jazz and blues from the 1920s through the 1970s say.

Pros - I like the fact that if has large print easy to read and play sheet music for both the Right hand tremble and Left hand Cleft. Also, I like the words with the piano music and the chords mentioned above each measure, since I play Ukulele as well and we use Chords. This book has over 60 songs of which I know only a few, but will be able to expand my knowledge of music. Instead of just chords for the Left Hand Cleft, we have single notes in each measure like a background melody. This will be easy to make my own background music for videos that I am making of me teaching how to paint in watercolor.Cons - Page are made out of thin newspaper print. However, the print is dark enough that you hardly notice the writing on the other side. Have to turn pages to complete many of the songs. However, the pages are easy to turn and the songs are more interesting by being full length.

Coole Sache - hier bekommt man Jazz Standards die einfach gesetzt sind und gut klingen! Der Druck ist super und die Stücke sind sehr groß und übersichtlich dargestellt - das Papier ist relativ dünn und recycelt - hat dadurch, finde ich, seinen eigenen Charme - jazzy halt :-D. Die Stücke kann man sehr gut auch in den klassischen Klavierunterricht mit einfliesen lassen - so bekommt der Schüler auch mal Jazz unter die Finger und die Stücke sind wie schon geschrieben nicht so schwer, dass er einen "bleibenden" Schaden abbekommt :-D (aber nicht für Anfänger). Das Spiel-Buch ist auch für jeden was, der nicht der super-tolle Pianist ist oder einfach mal Jazz ausprobieren möchte und dem bisher schwierig gesetzte Stücke abgeschreckt haben. Ich persönlich habe einen riesen Spaß mit den leichten JAZZ STANDARTS und konnte, wie das Buch mit der Post kam, meine Finger nicht vom Klavier fernhalten - Jazz einfach mal EASY!

This is the beginner piano book I never had, and my kids never had.It compares *so* favourably with all those familiar books with tunes written by the editor--boring melodies and simple-minded harmonies. No wonder it was hard to get anybody to practice.No more! This is real music. The arrangements are simple enough that a beginner can play them, but sophisticated enough that you'll be glad you can.

nice arrangements . good players can use it like a fake book.
