DK Eyewitness Books: Chemistry: Discover the Amazing Effect Chemistry Has on Every Part of Our Lives

I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this book. I must not have read the descriptions because I got it for my 4 year old daughter and when it arrived I almost immediately sent it back. My first impression was that there was a lot of information in this book and almost all of the topics seemed to me to be over her head. Boy was I wrong, once my daughter saw the book she was HOOKED. This has become her favorite bedtime story.There are so many bright beautiful pictures and the descriptions/writing is very clear and effective. Each page is packed with information and covers the subtopic very thoroughly. Unlike most of the books we own, we can't read this all in one sitting so we pick a few pages at a time. My daughter is constantly asking questions about all the amazing photo's. And I find myself learning things and really feeling engaged in reading (unlike all our princess books we have read eight million times).I believe my daughter enjoys this book so much partially because it comes across as grown up material and isn't 'kiddified' but the pictures do allow her to see and understand the material in her own terms/style. I am egger to buy more books from this line to see if they all are able to create such a love of learning.

Bought this for my 9 yr old granddaughter who had taken a class in chemistry as a summer camp which really peaked her curiosity.I gave this to her at our family beach trip. All the kids-3 of them- were sitting and learning along with her. Everyone got into the act and the book was quite a hit. (Some of the adult "chem" majors added bits and pieces, so the whole family got into it.) This is one of a number of DK books which I will be buying more of. My granddaughter was thrilled and took the book to bed with her to reread.The setup of the book gives an interesting overview and tells of chemistry in ancient times which she found really interesting as she loves ancient Greece and history and kept saying-I didn't know that. The table of contents is really inviting and there isa glossary of terms at the back.Overall this is a great book. It arrived very quickly and was packed very well.

I got this book as a Christmas present for my instructor, who is first-year. I hope this will be a good communications device for her kids, as well as younger people if she wants to talk in public schools

I just love the dk eyewitness books. The photos are eye-catching and colorful and the text is broken into bite sized bits. I am using this book for homeschool as our guiding textbook for our first dip into chemistry. We get a little help from Janice van cleave and Max Axiom too. My son is 7 and is at about a second grade level. He's probably not as impressed as I am. Probably because he didn't have MY chemistry book to compare to, lol. Anyway, its great for an introduction to some important ideas.

I purchased this as a gift for an 8 year old (smart) nephew who is fascinated by chemistry. I have a science education, and just from reading this book myself I can tell you this is great for kids ages 5 and up! Provides a wonderful, picture oriented exposure to chemistry and how the world works. A great way for parents to encourage interest in science and fun too! A good bedtime book too! Who says bedtime has to be fairytales!? :-)

This is a great all-in-one starter book for someone who wants to understand more about chemistry. My son expressed an interest in learning more about chemistry and I struggled with where to start without boring him to tears and squashing his interest. This book was perfect and he loves it. A very well layed out book loaded with great content.

I bought this book for my nephew who is in middle school. He love science and he is very excited to have this book.A lot of information, and this is a great addition to his other science book. He enjoys it so I'm happy.I also recieved the package in no time, and no problems buying here at amazon.
