Get the book. You are looking at the book because you are learning Syllabary or teaching someone. There is a story in this book for each syllabary symbol. It took me longer than one weekend, but the book helped a great deal.Sometimes you may think up a better story for one of the symbols. That's ok as long as you have some story in your head as,to why that symbol makes the sound it does.Even if you only remember a few stories from this book, you still gain ground on the syllabary.The stories will be clean and childish. If that insults your intelligence, then don't buy the book. If however you don't care if it's a silly story that causes you to remember...then buy the book. I mention that the language is clean so you will know it is also appropriate to show a child or a grandparent this book. It's simple enough that a child that can read simple books alone can read this. An adult could tell the stories to a younger child. I'm an adult and I used the stories for me.Also get "Cherokee Lessons" by Michael Joyner for further instructions in writing the letters and some basic words and phrases. It's available from Amazon.com.Get the Kindle app "Cherokee Language Syllabary" also by Michael Joyner. This is a game which calls out syllable characters and you must tap on the correct characters before time is up. You begin the game drilling one character. More gradually added until you are drilling them all.Between the 2 books, the Kindle app, and the free sound files that are available for the "Cherokee Lessons" book (web address for those files is in the book), you should have your syllabary learned.See http://Cherokee.org then look under About the Nation, Language, Online Language Classes, Lesson Archives. There you will find free language lessons in English teaching Cherokee (Tsalagi). The materials I have mentioned above from Amazon will help with those classes.The material is simple enough that you can do this even if you have never learned a different language before. I think this is a great resource! I have been studying Cherokee on and off for the past 12 or 13 years. I am an adult learner, not a tribal enrollee, but very interested in Cherokee language and culture. I have tried everything I could think of to learn the syllabary (including writing it innumerable times, sewing it, painting it, making flash cards, trying to make drawings with the characters in them, etc.). Also I have taken language classes offered by Cherokee Nation and EBCI. This book definitely is helping me remember the characters... The narratives are fun and they stay in my mind enough to help me remember the shapes of characters. I don't have a Kindle and can still be uncertain at times how to access books online, but it isn't too difficult to figure it out. Highly recommend :)

This made learning the syllabry easy and practical. I took a few weeks to get through on my spare time, and I enjoyed the little stories that went with each syllable. In order to understand the sounds on a few of them, it is necessary to understand the different dialects, but the syllable itself is memorized. None of the web links in the kindle version exist any longer, so I was a little frustrated by that. Definitely worth the kindle price, though.

My father’s family is Cherokee, and after his death when I was young we lost contact with them. As an adult I have tried to reconnect with my heritage on my own & have tried multiple times to teach myself the language. I am only on Lesson 3 as I write this and I already feel more confident, accomplished and optimistic than I have ever felt trying to learn via videos or other online help.The authors word association is perfect for me as this is exactly how I learn other things as well. I was thrilled to find such book to help me connect with who I am.If you have been struggling too or find learning new languages or concentrating difficult, buy this book!

Learning through association has always been an effective tool. Marc Case's approach is innovative, yet not always useful for me personally. However the groundwork he lays is sufficiently inspiring to allow me to re-create associations that resonate better with me than some of his.

I have spent years on and off trying to learn Cherokee. Finally, a book that somehow makes it all possible. While learning a new language is never easy, The idea of using a method of stories for the syllabary is exactly what everyone says to do when trying to memorize material. We as a species are not all that hot at rote memorization, but stories we are good at. I was able to commit to memory the first 5 symbols the first time I sampled the book, before I even bought it. Whether you are a serious student, or an interested spectator, this book will make learning the syllabary as effortless as is humanly possible. From there, building vocabulary is possible.

By far the only book on learning the Cherokee syllabary you’ll need. I have no prior experiencing with either the Cherokee language or writing system. I’d tried apps and other workbooks before but nothing ever stuck until this book. I couldn’t believe how quickly I was able to master the syllabary

This book is great for learning the Cherokee syllabary. It doesn't help you put the symbols together into words but if you are just beginning you have to start from the bottom and work up. This book is the perfect bottom rung on that ladder. I wish I could find a Learning Cherokee #2 like this book so that I could start to put together words, phrases and sentences.

Das Buch sollte man wegen der Schriftübungen als regelrechtes Buch kaufen, auch das Herumblättern wäre weniger anstrengend . Sehr zu empfehlen, wie gesagt, das doch besser als richtiges Buch ;-)
