Great present
Bought this for my son for Christmas and he has absolutely loved it. The quality, sharpness and ease of use is exactly what I expected. The cost was very reasonable and the size of the carvers are perfect for kids and adult. He loves it and he’s 12yr old.

Carving tools for beginners
I don’t know nothing about carving. But I went on vacation and saw tiki carving. So I order some tools and they are pretty good for the price and I love them. They are great for starting. I have Zero experience in carving but I’m a fast learner. It amazing what you can do.

All the "boys" are carving/whittling!
Boys and their toys! This year I heard that my Granddaughter was getting wood carving/whittling tools for her husband and two sons (34, 10 and 8 respectively). So I decided that all the "boys" should have something along those lines. :) This set and the wood book for whittling/carving that my Grandson and Grandson-in-law had under the tree were a big surprise ... and exciting gift, if the responses were true! Come the spring thaw, big and not so big boys will be sitting around the campfire sharing ideas. Btw, the girls will be there, too. Lol. This carving/whittling set has lots of tools for all kinds of projects. I can't wait to see what they all do!

Great value! So many tools!
This set is such a great value for the money. My son wanted to try to get started in wood carving, and this has been perfect. These tools are nice quality. I love the wood handles and the variety that you get.

Over all good set for starters
The tools and bag all work pretty well.. one tool came unusable, whatever stamp or forming process used made the angles wrong and unable to repair.. but the knives are for sure good to go!

Highly recommend!!
I chose this set because it appeared to be the best quality for the price. Typically you get what you pay for, right? I was surprised when they came in and exceeded all my expectations! Fiercely sharp, the included gloves are recommended, but be careful because the smooth handles do slip in your hand when wearing them. Speaking of smooth, they are an absolute delight to hold. You can wittle and carve away for hours and not once are they uncomfortable to hold. They seem to hold their edges very well too. The only thing I could possibly complain about is that it didn't come with any sort of instruction manual....sorry fellow noobs. Would definitely buy these again, very satisfied!!

Pretty good for the price
Can you open this kit and start carving the little pieces of basswood that come with it? Sure. But, is it a good carving kit? Sort of.What I like:1. Everything listed in the description was included with the set and all the knives and chisels except the hook knife fit in the case as shown in the listing picture. Its fine with me that the kook knife doesn't fit. I think the box is actually fine for storing the kit.2. The knives and chisels are pretty sharp.3. The gloves really are pretty cut proof, but yet breathable. I wear a women's medium glove and they fit me.What I don't like:1. The knives are not finished very well. They left burs on the some of the chisels and you can see flaws. If you want to move up to harder wood, you may get frustrated with them.2. NO instructions - not even a packing list. Nada. The listing provides some tantalizing hints as to how you might use the leather strop, but nothing about the how to use the stone or the sandpaper. Considering the grit, I assume the sandpaper is for sharpening the blades and not sanding the wood. I have a lot of specialty knives for various purposes and a ton of different sharpeners, but I have never used a strop. I spent some time watching YouTube videos about strops and here is what you do: rub the green polish on the rough edge of the strop and run your blade along it at the angle of the bevel leading with the back of the knife. Green is a medium polish. You can use the smooth part of the leather for polishing further. I have no idea about the grit of the white stone or why there is a groove in it. Maybe it is for the small gouges? The sandpaper was good for deburring the chisels and at 1200 grit, it is probably all you need to keep the knives sharp. Both the sandpaper and the leather strop need to be mounted on a piece of wood so you can keep the pressure even across the edge as you sharpen. You can look up strops on Amazon to see how they are normally prepared.3. Hook knife is RIGHT HANDED. The listing should say that. It matters.Bottom line: I would never give this as a gift to someone interested in woodworking. I think they would find it frustrating. But, if you just want some basic tools for light use or to experiment, then go for it.
