This statue is a perfect replica of one of Pompon “most well-known pieces, la Chouette (the Owlt”), 1927. François Pompon was a French sculptor, most commonly recognized for his stylized animals. He exalted lyricism in light by polished surfaces with an economy of detail.After working fifteen years as Rodin “assistant, and receiving encouragement from him, he produced some stunning works such as the Polar Bear shown at the 1922 Salon d’Automne, and left nearly 300 pieces to the French state.To this day, François Pompon may be considered an influential forerunner of modern sculpture. François Pompon was a French sculptor and animalier, most commonly recognized for his stylized animals. His career began as an apprentice marble carver in a Dijon funerary monument company. He soon after began studies in architecture, engraving, and sculpture. Pompon went on to study under the famous “animalier” Pierre Louis Rouillard at the École Nationale Supérieure Des Arts Décoratifs.
