Very intuitive pedal!
Instructions are clear, features are very wide-ranging and useful. I chose this over the El Capistan because I wanted the pedal to be auxiliary to making music, which this pedal certainly fulfills that idea - you can set it and forget it. The El Capistan seems more like a toy that you have to mess with more than practicing and playing your instrument.I like the footprint and the clean interface, as well as the quality of the sounds that come from it. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who is wanting a nice tape delay, and willing to spend a medium amount on it - there are cheaper and more expensive units, and I think this one is a very excellent compromise of price, value, and utility.

5* for this pedal, 5* for the seller
Outstanding tape echoes! The seller GEAR TREE responded fast to my tracking request and delivered the goods promptly.I compared this Empress pedal with my Strymon El Cap and it looks like that the Empress is a winner in sound versatility and rhythm diversity. This pedal delivers pad-like soundwaves and I can create whole rhythm patterns with it. I sing and play harmonica through an acoustic amp and involving the Empress opens a completely new world of soundscapes to me. Absolutely inspiring! Besides a beautiful and responsive slap-back (the classic tune!), it delivers much more. Dialing in Feedback to the 2'oclock position and changing dtime/ratio in tap mode from 1:4 to 1:1 and then dialing it back to 1:2 creates punchy pads with almost infinite time length. Is this the secret how Devin Townsend created his voluminous melody layers on Ocean Machine?Zero feedback problems as long as Mix and Output are kept on a tamed level.A great pedal for all tape echo addicts. My odyssey on finding an affordable tape echo pedsal has come to a happy ending. Thanks to Steve Bragg and his team, great job done!

Only because I'm not so good on my feet...
The sound quality of this delay is super great! However the three way switches on it, make it difficult to place on your board IMO. I'm pretty clumsy and have constant fear of stepping on them when trying to engage another pedal. So I end up having to place it rather high on my board. This won't be an issue for all, but if you're clumsy, it's something to consider.Another great feature is the Blip mode that you can activate. If this is your only delay pedal, it's not a very practical function, but I have three others on my board, so it's a nice additive for texture, when needed.Shipping was prompt, and I've had to deal with costumer service on a different order and they were amazingly kind and helpful. The 4 stars is due to my own clumsiness, but none the less makes the pedal difficult to use for me.

Well worth the price.
Such a good delay pedal. I had the MXR Carbon Copy and wanted a little more (tap tempo), so I returned it and saved up to get this fella. The pedal itself is absolutely beautiful and classy. I chose this one over Strymon's El Capistan because it was cheaper, had 3 presets available, and was a lot simpler. Oh yeah, did I mention that this pedal has a TINY footprint! If you want to get classic tape delays in 3 flavors, you're also in luck! Empress makes amazing pedals, but this one really has found a permanent home on my board! A+, Empress...A+

Great (tape) Delay
Love this delay pedal. I can dial in the tape delay I want. Lots of parameter, but easy to use and understand. It’s the only delay I use now.

Well built and excellent sound quality.
This thing sounds amazing. As with all Empress FX, the actual preamp section is pristine. The build quality is also top notch. The tape FX is very lush with random oscillation just like tape. There is control over the amount of random oscillation and high end roll off. It's very versatile. I also have the Wampler Faux Tape Echo. While the Wampler has a characteristic low-fi tape sound, The Empress is cleaner, quieter, and more versatile.
