How does this mouse compare to a Logitech G series, like the G700s?

The CAD mouse is great. Easily programmable including macros. I love the 2 buttons instead of using the wheel for a third button. I highly recommend it. i have logitech G700 and it does not compare. realize that it is a wired mouse only.

What is the difference between this mouse and any other standard pc mouse (ie, logitech performance mx)?

This mouse has a dedicated middle button (as well as a depress-able scroll wheel) for CAD programs like Siemens NX/Unigraphics (middle button = enter). And the laser sensor allegedly has finer resolution than most other mouses (I can't tell the difference there).

How much functionality is lost if i can't install the software package at work?

If you customize your buttons you lose that but if you use as default you will be ok

Will this work on my mac? i use the 3dconnexion spacenavigator on my mac with autodesk fusion 360 with my left hand and wanted to add cadmouse for use

Yes, it is compatible with OSX. The software required can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website http://www.3dconnexion.com/service/drivers.html
