PENN-PLAX Reptology Turtle Topper – Above Tank Basking Platform That Safely Mounts to Standard Size Tanks up to 55 Gallons and 13” Wide – Black Color

Awesome for my 4" 7 year old male red eared slider in a 20 gallon long. He is loving having the extra space to explore, having only ever had a small ramp and platform in the past. This platform he can go for a walk in, not just a short walk across and plunk into the water. I previously used the turtle ramps but the suction would give out on those every couple years, and I kept having to go up in sizes as my turtle and tank sized increased. This adds living space, looks great, costs the same amount, and doesn't rely on suction. It fits a 10 gallon to a 55 gallon tank, which should really be big enough for all but maybe the largest female turtles. This really is well designed and versatile, and at $34 is the same price as the in tank turtle ramp, which always eventually fail due to them relying on the included suction cups, which eventually quit working. I suppose my biggest complaint would be that I am worried about his trying to escape. I will make sure to leave some space between the fill line and the top of the tank. I also will likely need to retire an in tank filter I was using as the fill line will now be quite high. I bought a turtle canister on sale that I have been meaning to install, and the effective (up to 40 gallons) but very cheap ($8 on amazon) in tank filter was really loud anyway. I think for a baby turtle this ramp system may not be ideal because they really need shallow water and this requires almost filling the entire tank, but for turtles over a year old its a good way to go.

my turtle loves it, it's such an upgrade from the small green one i had. the one with the fake grass haha. this product is awesome, normans a huge fan, and i trust it 100 percent that he cant get hurt or get loose from his new basking area. it has quite a bit of space too so i plan to use this for a very long time, im even thinking about adding plants and rocks in there. norman (my turtle) even walks around it, the plastic half of it makes it so he's able to perch his little head up and see whatever he wants around him, so if youre expecting it to be closed in, it's not! i love that. it was really easy to set up, the instructions were clear. just be careful you dont accidentally break anything, it's pretty durable but i broke a small piece on accident. dont be clumsy like me haha. the only things i didnt like is this: -my turtle makes a bit of noise from his nails and his tummy from walking on it. but it's no problem, i would buy this product 1000x again! if you are expecting it to be silent, you might want to put a material on top that is quieter. -i wish the stairs were slanted differently because my turtle just slides down them like a slide and im not sure if he wants to go down that fast haha. Absolutely LOVE this product... would give it 6 stars if I could. No matter your current setup, no matter the size of your aquarium, this product will add 30% to 50% more swimming room for your turtle(s), because everyone else I know uses some sort of floating turtle dock that forces you to only partially fill whatever tank you have (plus some docks take up a lot of swim roon on their own account), while this product allows you to fill your aquarium nearly to the top (its actually kinda required because of the entry ramp). We have a 6 year old Yellow Bellied Slider of healthy size and our turtle has been thrilled ever since we added this to his 20-gallon aquarium (yeah, smaller then we'd like, but its much better now with this topper). He has a LOT more swimming room now then he had before because of the previous dock... well, basically the entire aquarium is free to swim in now... he LOVES the underwater platform, and has no problems climbing in or out of the basking area, which he loves because he can get totally 100% dry and bask in the warm lights all he wants now (and he goes back and forth a lot). I know most turtle owners have a 55 gallon tank which this is ideal for, but as a smaller tank owner (standard 25L x 14W x 18T), this is pretty much the only way you can pull off a smaller tank and not feel guilty about it. As the topper is about 17" long, a 20g tank owner will have about 8" left of space to work with... which for me was enough room to put a large filter and an aquarium light across the width of the tank (with the help of a stretched out wire coat hanger as added safety/support)... my turtle can actually use all 20g of the tank now for swimming, which probably puts him on par with a 40-50 gallon tank owner who's aquarium is only half-filled to support a standard floating dock. If there's a single negative to this product, its that no matter the size of your tank, you'll have to deal with whatever the 17" long topper itself doesn't cover, because the nature of the topper means you have to keep the aquarium filled near to the top. If you have a turtle with any hint of ninja escaping abilities, you're pretty much on your own on figuring out a way to cover the remaining space, as no off-the-store-shelf product will cover such an odd amount of leftover space. I was lucky that my filter and aquarium light nicely covered the remaining free space in my 20g tank.

after becoming unexpected immediate new family to a pair of small turtles that had been living in a small plastic container all of their lives, we decided to make a Christmas gift for our son and daughters with a tank setup for their new pals. we purchased this little home and it was extremely easy to set up, which i love. it's sturdy and i'm not worried about the turtles escaping (who the girls named Stella and Harper by the way), even with the top completely off of the fish tank. we have it attached to a 30 gallon tank and what i love most is that it gives the turtles FULL access to the complete tank. when they outgrow this current setup, i'll purchase a 2nd Turtle Topper Basking Platform and put one on each end of a 125 gallon long tank for them. Cost! I have to be honest here. This is a bit of an investment in my opinion, at around $40, when our budget wasn't prepared for it at CHRISTMAS time of all times per year. But...I think it's worth it. I'll explain why. After at least 50 total hours of speed learning about turtles while frantically trying to put together a proper home for Harper and Stella, two things i've learned thus far are that proper turtle homes can be costly...indeed we did have to come out of pocket with $75 immediately, including this topper, and that's only because we had a majority of the other things turtles need for care, such as a tank and filter system, because as a hobbyist i also maintain aquariums. but if i didn't have those other things, i would have needed easily at least $350 to properly set up a home for the turtles. and two...turtles NEED a place to come out of their water fully, be warm, and get proper lighting designed especially for their healthy growth and development. unfortunately and oddly enough, it can be annoying and difficult to find a satisfying solution for turtles to bask properly in a tank setup. while not PERFECT, this topper really cut my stress for their home because most basking items on the market for aquatic turtles are flimsy and encounter functional problems. this topper to me, while a bit more costly, has already relieved my emergency turtle tank setup related stress. the turtles can climb out fine, and the top of the topper has small troughs in it that allow for clamp lights to attach to the topper to provide UVB lighting and heat to the turtles. the only thing that's annoying is that the ramp is made completely of plastic, and it's not very easy for turtles to climb up. we solved this problem by taking a clean large black sock (we ordered the black model so it matched) and pulled it over the ramp to make a grippy surface for the turtles. it works perfectly and now we find often find Stella basking on the ramp itself as we turn the basking light towards both the topper and the water, where the ramp is. While I do know this topper won't be large enough for really big turtles to be super comfortable (Stella and Harper are 4" and 4.5" in diameter and both fit fine in the topper. but i think after about 7.5" in diameter it gets pretty small for a turtle and the ramp may be too narrow), i do think that if space and or finance won't permit, this topper is still better than nothing at all. of all the options available, i think this option is by far the best. it allows turtles a completely out of the water (tank)option that's great to set up a tank with small turtles. it is super easy to set up and use and gives your brain relief from worrying about their safety so you can find out the other millions of things you need to know about turtles before getting them (like they are super messy eaters and realllllllly nosey and inquisitive). i believe this topper will allow me a great amount of time to become enough of a turtle expert to plan and execute a 150+ gallon solution for our turtles when the time comes. i definitely recommend this Topper! Stella and Harper agree!

it's expensive, but 100% worth the money. I love this thing. It's easy to clean, looks great, and holds heat and humidity. I'm not worried about my turtle escaping out of this, and he's tried. It's sturdy and fits on top of a 40 Gal breeder if you use the extension brackets. My turtle loves sleeping on the platform beneath it. I only wish the ramp was much longer and the section for the lamps was much larger. It will fit his UVB and heat, but not very well. So far the heat lamp has discolored the clear plastic, but not melted it, despite being very close to the edge. So far he has not tipped it over, but when he claws at the sides trying to climb them, the weight of his plastron falling has knocked off his lamps. I wish there was a way to keep them more secure, the "clamp" sections are useless and just collect dust.

Finally, a company that has made the world’s greatest aquatic pet turtle product!!! It shows how scientifically advanced we have become, only you have to supply the lamp. My turtles were at first shy of it, but it only took a matter of minutes and less than a day for them to start taking turns climbing up into the enclosed platform to bask. The clear top is movable with ridges to clamp several lamps, from both sides, and a metal grid door on top that can open if you need to insert food, etc. into it. Everything is made super easy. I have five mapping turtles. The size is great for them and the topper fits on my 37 gallons, near perfectly. Make sure you measure the size before purchasing. The only natural setback is that the turtles can get spooked from the clear plastic and hop quickly back into the water. I suggest covering the clear plastic with plants or other décor to provide them with a more hidden environment and hence they are less likely to get spooked, but also less visible when they are in there. Overall, it is a great product for aquatic turtles!!!

First one ordered was a disappointment. It's like buying it from a thrift store. No original box. All the pieces were thrown into an Amazon box. There was no manual or instructions and it was missing a side piece to keep the ramp in place. I would have made do with this unit if all the parts were there as it seems well made. Unfortunately, it was useless if I couldn't keep the ramp level. The replacement I received was the way it should have been the first time around with the manufacturer original box, a manual and everything neatly packaged inside. All parts were there. All parts seem sturdy and well made. It took some force to snap the ramp to the floor unit portion but once in I knew that it would stay in place. There are additional side supports for the ramp. My tank is a 29 gallon tank and the whole unit rested perfectly on top. I had a couple issues with this product and needed to make adjustments. The first was the ramp. It seemed to be hard for my red eared sliders to climb up on it. I have two of them (4 inch and 3 inch). As some others mentioned, the ramp may be too steep. It seemed that way in my case. I'm not sure if the water level had much impact on the ability for the turtles to climb. Also wondering if traction was an issue. I resolved my ramp issue by first extending it. I got the lid of those Hillshire Ham containers and cut it to size I wanted and then used hot glue gun to attach it. Then getting a shelf liner from 99 cent store. It's like the waffle, rubbery or foamy type and I guess waterproof. I just hot glue gunned the liner just above the side support of the ramp. After doing this my turtles are able to climb up nicely. My 4 inch one does it seamlessly. My 3 inch turtle seems to just wanna hang out on the ramp to bask. I don't know if it just wants to remain close to the water. My second issue is getting my basking lamp at the proper height. So the clamp attaches fine to the side on the cover but my lamp doesn't tilt down enough to get the right angle. So I went to Home Depot and bought an egg crate lighting panel /Louvre. One panel and I had plenty left over. I cut three pieces. Two for the bottom support and one for the top. I cut it wide enough to extend beyond the side supports. Used the hot glue gun again to attach all three pieces. It worked perfectly. There's plenty of room. I also added some of the shelf liner to the basking area. I wasn't sure if the plastic was getting too hot for my turtles as they weren't wanting to bask initially. So just to be sure I added the liner which doesn't seem to be affected by the heat. It is also soft so I thought my turtles would enjoy that better. Despite the hassle of getting a dud on the first go, I'm very satisfied after my modifications. It should last as long as my turtles do.

Great for protecting against curious cat lol. Also thats a sweet potato in the tank after i think 2-3months. Be careful with climbing plants though because sometime after the first picture, my turtle managed to climb out of the tank and wander around the room while i was out, thankfully the door was closed. I ended up removing the sweet potato

Good quality and sturdy, longer ramp would be good though for a less steep incline.

This is a brilliant product, and the only one I think works for fully grown turtles, as its totally sturdy and takes their weight with ease. It took them a while to learn how to use the first one I bought (I now have three) but once mastered, they love it too, and bask there for hours every day under their clamp lamp (bought separately). The last one I bought came from Amazon US and was here in less than a week, with great service from the seller. Excellent product.

Took them around a day to finally climb up but when they did they loved the area. Also very easy to assemble, but the lower sitting area did not fit my tank so I didn’t use it. Heat/UV lamp can be attached to the upper part, big plus.
