Review: Great World Overview - I am teaching an "Around the World" class at our homeschool coop, where I teach 5-7 year olds about the continents and oceans. After getting this book out of the library, I liked it so much that I purchased a copy. The bright pictures and informative text give lots of options - you can skip some of the captions for the younger crowd, use the illustrations to get the kids talking and noticing details, or read everything for a small, focused group. I like the variety of places featured, and the colorful illustrations. I will note that the features include Carnival in Brazil, with some women that are rather scandalously dressed for a kids' book. My husband hails from the Caribbean, and I am familiar and comfortable with Carnival culture and my kids have experienced it firsthand, so we can talk about how things can be considered culturally appropriate for one place and time even if they would be a bit much for another place or people. Depending on your comfort level, you might want to skip this page, or just know about it ahead of time. Many of the pages offer great opportunities for further learning. One page features New Zealand's Haka, and there are some great, kid appropriate videos on YouTube of the haka that are truly spine-tingling. Video or images of Monarch butterfly migration are pretty incredible, as well. The book featured a number of places/traditions I wasn't familiar with, and it has been fun to learn more along with the kids. This certainly isn't a stand-alone geography book, but it is a great supplement. The detailed images provide lots of material for generating interest with your kids and planting a seed for them to want to learn more. Review: Don't be shy, adults โ this book is awesome! - My girlfriend and I came across this book at a store on our travels and didn't have room in our luggage for a hardcover book, but I went and bought it the day we got home. That's how captivating it was! This book brought me back to the oversized hardcover picture books I read as a kid. The illustration is absolutely wonderful, imaginative, funny, and if full of subtle details that keep your eyes moving across every composition. And as an avid traveler and geography geek, this book covers so many of the world's most unique experiences and places. Whether you've experienced some of these places or just dream about them, you'll feel that youthful sense of wonder and adventure from this book. Oh and if you think it's fun for adults, wait til anyone under the age of 12 gets their hands on it. I have a 2.5 year old nephew who is picking up new words every day, and this book is PERFECT for him to learn with. He is entranced by all the colors, architecture, animals, vehicles and cultural objects. He is learning what different landscapes look like, the names of countries, exotic animals, unique recreation activities, etc. I hope this goes on to inspire his own curiosity about the world! You'll be amazed how a book like this can stick with a child for their whole life. I think this is one book worth owning for anyone who loves adventure, young and old. Parents, take a break from digital entertainment and add this book to your little one's library! It will grow with them for sure!

Gorgeous Illustrations
Fabulous book with gorgeous illustrations. It is larger than most books, which makes it even more enjoyable to peruse and enjoy the images. The hardcover is really sturdy, makes a great gift or a book to keep for your kiddos.

Neat but wish there was a much expanded version. With more detailed maps.
This book is pretty cool. I do wish it had more detailed maps though. It has the big picture world map, then a map for each continents but no details such as islands and or capitals or other cities. I also wish it was perhaps bigger - as in that it covered more cool things in more countries. It kind of only touches on a handful of interesting things from each continent and that leaves out a LOT. What they do cover is interesting and is done well. This is from someone who has actually been to a number of places around the world. But as for my young children they will probably enjoy it.

Maps are not the focus
For what this book is, it is wonderful! I bought this for my 5 year old son who is obsessed with geography. I wanted to find an atlas with maps and beautiful art. However, this was not that book. If your child is interested in culture and history stories of other countries then this is your book and it is lovely while doing it. If maps are your goal keep looking. It is also a huge book! I gave it 5 stars because it was beautiful and interesting.

Big book!
The book arrived damaged at one corner, which was disappointing. Iโm assuming it happened during shipping due to the size of the book and bad packaging. It was in a large box with just a piece of scrunched up paper to protect it. The book itself is lovely. Beautiful illustrations and interesting information about places around the world.
