100% White Cotton Prairie Pilgrim Amish Bonnet Large Thanksgiving Play Hat

I purchased this for my granddaughter to wear at our state capital for Pioneer Day. Honestly I was worried as I usually make things like this myself but was unable to this time. I was very pleasantly surprised. It fit as expected and the white was crisp and stain free. The workmanship was also adequate. It was creased from shipping but that was expected as it is shipped flat. The creases plumped right out when I sprayed lightly with water and steamed the bonnet. I also used starch but it really wasn’t necessary.

Cautiously ordered due to other reviews, but it is perfect. I am an adult and do not have a "small" head but the elastic in the back at the base of the bonnet does expand so it can fit many head sizes. The front brim area is adjustable, depending upon how tightly you tie the "ribbons" (not really ribbons - but don't know what else to call them). It is made in China and was labeled "Americana Souvenirs and Gifts, Gettysburg, PA. I ironed it and was able to remove the "crease" a reviewer complained of -- Actually, after ironing it is even larger - more "poofey" in the back. The brim is not quite the pure white of the body of the bonnet but this is due to the multiple layers and stiffening material that is used to stabilize it. And, does not detract from the appearance at all. It has pleats around the brim and elasticized gathers at the back base. Now that the event I ordered it for is over I plan to wear it while working in the yard to shade my face and control my hair. It is a light weight fabric and I live in South Florida where it really gets hot!

I needed a generically historic looking bonnet I could modify for an 1820s costume. Style-wise, the ties are too short and too far back to comfortably tie under the chin, which was the style for this time period, but if I'd been more ambitious and had more time, I could have modified that. It sufficed for a quick solution to my needs. Construction-wise, I concur with everyone who complained about it arriving folded in half. It can be ironed out, but it was kind of a pain to do it. It also took some doing to shape the fabric part as it also arrives pretty creased. (Hint: put a ceramic bowl inside it and fill the bowl with hot water. Starch the fabric and stuff with paper or netting until it dries.)TL;DR: For the price and the two-day shipping, it was an easy and satisfactory alternative to making it myself!

It's cute and will serve its purpose for my 10 year old daughter's 4th grad Oregon Trail overnight trip. My only disappointment is that the bonnet was folded so firmly that there is a severe crease in the middle of the brim. I understand that it has to be flattened to some degree for shipping, but it was pressed and creased deliberately. It's also VERY small. The description and reviews said it could fit a woman. I would say this is definitely a girl's bonnet, not women's. It's a wee bit small for my 10 year old, 4 ft. 10 in, 90 pound girl. She's got an average/proportionate sized head. Either way, the price was great and given this will only be worn for one occasion, it's absolutely fine.

This bonnet was made with love and true craftsmanship. Very well made! Purchased to go with my Halloween costume. However, based on the reviews, I ordered a size large because many people were saying their children wore a large, or that the other sizes were small. I am a 31 year-old woman and this bonnet was big on me. Not so large that I couldn't pull it off, but I just barely got away with wearing it. I don't think I have a small head, but maybe between a small to average size head. I could have easily gotten a size medium, so I hope this helps someone else when determining what size to purchase. This has nothing to do with how the bonnet was made, just how the reviews were. I was nervous that even the large would be small on me, but it was not the case. Good luck! P.S. Cute pleating on brim. Good quality. Fits women small to women med sized head great! Great price too (considering the cost and time of sewing them.) I ordered 3, and all 3 teenage girls liked them -- that's a good sign! They are a light-weight fabric so they were pretty cool (temperature) to wear.Update: the fabric is cotton-like. It was worn outdoors in a very dusty environment--it did not wash very well. Pre-treated, soaked, repeated washes--it's a one-time-wear kind of thing. But they did look adorable!!

I used this for a little bo peep costume for Halloween, since me baby was dressed up as a lamb. It was poorly made, deep crease in the middle of the rim that I could get out no matter how much I ironed it. It is also very small, it fit my friends 9 year old daughter. Disappointed since the seller didn’t offer any way to return it.
