Cozy fireplace smell
I am more inclined towards resin and oil incense than just pure wood, so that's where I'm coming from in this. These are compressed bricks of what I would say is sawdust. They are all packed in a plastic bag together and do shed dust. I burned one like I would burn a cone, on a brass holder. Using a torch lighter they are not too difficult to light and burn well provided you ignite evenly on the top of a vertically standing brick. These give off the aroma of a lit fireplace on a cold dark night. There is very little scent from resins or oils, it's not going to smell like that. It's really just burning wood with a very slightly sweet scent that balsam would give off. I really enjoy it for what it is and I think these are good value for the price if you're into that. I had no problems keeping these lit, they burn right through. They do however give off a lot of smoke. Much more than I'd like in my home, so I probably won't burn these much. But they are good bricks and I did enjoy the homey vibes.

Smells wonderful - reminds me of being in NM
These little bricks pack a powerful punch, but in a good way. They remind me of being in Ruidoso in the late fall when camp fires are burning. They don’t smell fake or cheap. I absolutely love them. If you love the smell of fresh air and being outside, you’ll love these. So glad I found them. One word of caution, they don’t smell the same when they burn as when they are all in the box. The way they smell in the box is a bit more pungent.

Smells like the best campfire you've ever sat around.
LOVE LOVE the fragrance this gives off ... easy to light. Burns a little faster than I thought but that's ok ... fragrance lingers awhile!!

no balsam smell
This smells like nothing but burning paper. No balsam scent at all. And there is no burner included, which might be a problem for some. I tried to save some money but wasted it instead. Going back to my old brand that actually smells like balsam.

I have not found another incense that smells this authentic, and is made of such simple ingredients.
Incienso de Santa Fe makes my absolute favorite incense. It smells like a fireplace, or campfire, burning the most fragrant woods. In this case the Fir balsam, also reminds me of the smell of a fresh cut Christmas tree. I started with the sample pack, to try all the different types of wood. I loved all but two types and that’s up to individual taste. So far I’ve purchased two full sized packs since my sample pack, one pinion for summer, and this one Fir Balsam for winter. A pack of one hundred lasts us about two years. The individual bricks can get a bit beat up during shipping. I did return and reorder one pack, that was overly pulverized. The replacement pack arrived in good shape, and I’m happy with it. The only thing that caused me to leave one star off is the holder. I do use them, but the little round depression is extremely shallow, and it can be tricky to get the little brick to stay upright. Others seem upset about getting these bricks to burn. If you live in a humid place, keep your bricks in an airtight container. It does take a minute to get the tops fully lit, but I don’t mind that at all. I hold mine at a slight angel above a flame for maybe two or three seconds then gently blow on the burning edge until it glows brightly. I rotate the brick and repeat until all four edges and most of the center of the top of the brick glows when I blow on it. Then I set the brick upright on the holder. As long as the brick stays upright, they always burn well for me. For some people, small tongs or tweezers might be helpful for lighting and placing the incense brick onto the holder.

But this is not typical incense...
This gives the outdoorsy effect of a campfire burning the fir's wood. Other cautionary notes that never marred my own enjoyment of this product over the years, but may abash some: The little logs can indeed be slow to ignite -- holding over a candle flame does the trick, as another has mentioned. I be sure to blacken all four sides in the flame, awaiting fire. Then I whisk through the air until smoke arises. Standing the rectangle upright on the clay holder gets easier with practice. OK I do love this stuff, and Fir Balsam is my favorite of them all, but I realize others might be expecting the more usual incense smells (that I have never appreciated much -- but it's just about preferences IMO). There's nothing fake about this -- I opine it's high-quality, based upon years of experience. But I've long-reckoned not everyone will like smoking up their space, or it might be more of an acquired taste for others who give this a chance. When I open my windows wide during summer heatwaves, the neighbors' cigarette smoke, from new to stale, wafts in unavoidably from their trips outside for smoke-breaks and from indoor smokers' open windows so close to mine, and this is the most robust antidote I've been able to find. I waft this woodsy aromatherapy around and back outward with strategically aimed fans and it doesn't seem to bother anyone else. Tip: I do burn this a ways back from my doorway, or throw a scarf over the space under the door, to impede much more than a whiff of this wood fire aroma from wafting into the hallways -- just so no one will suppose this mostly-wooden structure is on fire and sound the alarm. I had to give this five stars -- simply because its one of my long-term favorite favorites!

Nice smell…but very strong.
Burns pretty fast..the scent is a bit too strong for me. Might try another scent though.

My favorite incense
I really enjoy this incense. The scent is particularly nice and it burns well. I like the look of the little clay dishes that are included with the set, which match the size of the incense, and don’t take up too much space.

very fast delivery
Smaller box than I'd imagined for the price but correct number of incense sticks. Excellent response time + delivery. I used to buy from France but no longer available. Wonderful aroma.

Waste of money - smells of burned sawdust!
So so SO dissatisfied with these. It literally just smells of burned sawdust. I was sceptical when I open the sealed bag and took a smell prior to burning - barely any scent. Certainly not as described. I burn incense all the time from many different producers - this does not compare to companies such as Satya or Prinknash Abbey who create amazing incense that smells great and lasts all day. Don’t waste your money on this coloured sawdust. Sorry Incienso de Santa Fe to leave such a bad review but I genuinely feel I’ve wasted money on this product that is really not for purpose. Maybe I just got a bad batch? Unlikely though. 😕😢
