AWESOME PRODUCT FOR DOGS, CATS AND HORSES!!
I couldn't wait to receive this rake because every critter on my place was trying to shed that itchy dead winter hair. I especially wanted it for my aging Border Collie who seems incapable of shedding her winter coat these last two years despite the quality food and supplements she gets every day. The rake did a fair job of removing a lot of that old hair. Her coat was SO thick with that two year accumulation that it wasn't as easy as I'd hoped to pull it through, but it does work and the handle is comfortable for extended use. (I'm actually still working on her coat) The tines on this rake are fairly sharp, so care must be taken not to dig in too hard. Here's the best part: my three barn cats were shedding like crazy, so I thought I'd give it a try on them too. As advertised, the tines rotate as you are using the rake, so there is a little noise involved. Nothing much, just a little rattling as you stroke. The cats were a bit wary of the sound but within about 30 seconds of starting to groom them, they would roll over and over, purring. They don't like it on their tails or their back legs on the "thighs", but even without brushing these areas I'd bet I got enough "wool" off of these cats to make a new living room rug! LOL!! Now, I just walk out the back door and shake the brush to make the tines rattle and they all appear, wanting to be brushed. I was so impressed with the way this brush worked on my dog and the cats, that I decided I'd try it out on the horses' manes and tails. I thought it seemed sturdy enough to go through horse hair, so I put it to the test. Horse mane and tail hair is very coarse and not very easy to brush through unless you've used an expensive product similar to creme rinse on it. I just acquired a two year old who had been out to pasture most of his life and his mane and tail were a mess. Again, the rattle of the tines was of small concern at first, but as soon as he discovered the benefits of this brush, he ignored the sound. (I think he liked the feel of it against his neck) I was amazed that this rake removed the knots with a minimal amount of hair loss in the process. It was time consuming, but I started at the bottom and worked up, and it got everything smoothed out. Again, the handle was comfortable for prolonged heavy duty use. I inspected the tines afterwards and they were intact and still rotating freely. The horses also love being "scratched" with this brush in their itchy places that they can't reach on their own. The rake needed cleaning after all of this and it's all metal and plastic construction. I just scrubbed it with an old nail brush and some warm, soapy water, shook it a couple of times, and put it outside to dry. Easy. Looks like new. Thank you Amazon for offering this quality product at an excellent price. I love this thing! If it ever wears out, I will have another one by the following week.

Best Rake - Better than Furminator
I have a German Shepherd, and those of you familiar with the breed know that they shed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, even in their sleep! They also blow their coats twice a year, and mine even blows coat in the winter! After seeing the rave reviews on the Furminator, I priced them at Petsmart and Petco and was shocked to see a $50 price tag! I ended up buying one via Amazon for $26 which saved me nearly 50% over PetsMart and Petco. While the Furmintaor works, it works on the principle of "gently" pulling out the loose hairs of the undercoat. The problem is that the Furminator is more of a short-tooth comb that grabs onto the hair and pulls out whatever hairs the teeth happen to grab onto, thereby pulling out more than just the loose undercoat hairs. In fact, being that it's a short-tooth comb, it doesn't get deep into the coat as it needs to, and ends up pulling out a lot of the topcoat, too. You have to use a lot of firm strokes to get past the topcoat, yet the instructions say to use gentle strokes, not do too many strokes, and not to do it to often, or you will irritate the dog's skin. One day one of our customers showed me his Evolution Rake, and demonstrated it for me on his Husky. Now, there's a dog that will give the GSD some competition when it comes to shedding! I examined the rake closely and saw that the Evolution's pins are spread out (hence the name "Rake"), and the pins rotate. This ingenious design allows the rake sink down deep into the dog's coat, past the topcoat, and when the rotating pins encounter hair that is not loose, they spin their way around the hair instead of latching onto the hair and pulling it out like the Furminator does. So, there is much less intact hair being pulled out. I can use as many strokes as I want, use it as often as I want, and my dog's skin does not get irritated. And, for $8 and change this is definitely the way to go! I believe there's another Evolution rake with pins that don't rotate, so just be sure to get the one that has the rotating pins. Unless, of course, you want to buy my like-new, barely used Furminator for $15! ;-)

Great for Ragdoll Cats
We have a Ragdoll cat, one of those cats with the thick rabbit-like fur. He doesn't really shed, but in the Spring he loses some of his winter fur and if I don't stay on top of the brushing, it forms mats. Most brushes for cats don't penetrate the coat, it just smoothes the top layer, and while I do have the grooming brushes that thin the coat, I only use them in the Spring when he's losing his Winter coat. This brush is perfect. It penetrates his coat and massages his skin. It pulls out any loose hairs and tangles but doesn't thin the coat -- which is what I want. Why get a pet with really plush fur and then spend all your time trying to thin it out? My cat purrs wildly whenever I use this, including on his belly, hind legs, and tail.

I LOVE this rake (brief comparison to furminator and claw rake)
I've used several other brushing and deshedding tools but this is hands down my favorite. And I must say this is also my dog's (a pomeranian mix) favorite. I found the the furminator would cut a LOT of guard hair but each swipe definitely went through smoothly (translation:too smoothly). On the shedzilla knock-off i found it was a lot safer to use but it also cut guard hairs now and then. More importantly the clawed rake would also tug at any little tangle. Fast forward a month later. I was dissatisfied with what i had so I finally got this rake which i over-looked because it didn't quite as fancy as the other choices. After using this i was amazed by how easily this went through my dogs fur without needing to actually cut anything. I noticed that wIth all of the bladed deshedding tools i was definitely cutting out more undercoat than needed. I saw that some people complained about the handle and the noise. I think any dog that that becomes UNCONTROLLABLY annoyed by the sound is just spoiled... sorry but I think it's something that a dog should be able to get used to in less than a week. As for the handle, I haven't had any problems with breaking since its still new but if it did break a year or two down the line, I would definitely replace it with the same. There's always the possibility that they intentionally designed it that way to boost sales... but let's hope not. I wish they also sold a lightly smaller version of this but that's not a big deal. Here's a run down: PROs `glides through hair easily `No fear of over-cutting `comfortable handle `very affordable price `high coverage (because rows of teeth are at an angle) `dog finds it very soothing (like getting a good belly scratch) `gets deep CONs (most of which i find very minor) `limited size options, can be slightly tedious to navigate small dogs' underside. `teeth makes rattling noise `might seem somewhat slower than bladed alternatives `probably will not go through tough mats (i brush every day, my dog doesn't mat) `possibly brittle handle(?)- BTW I'm pretty sure epoxy or even super glue could fix this. PS i always follow any combing with a slicker brush because there are always loose hairs no matter what tool you use.

Useful, but only for certain dogs
This rake is balanced with positive and negative aspects, and after 5 uses I still haven't decided whether or not I like it. So here's the information and I'll let the reader be the judge: PROS: - The rotating teeth do a good job at smoothly running through matted fur without getting stuck or snagged in the middle of the mat, which reduces any discomfort for my dog and lessens the effort I have to put into pulling through matted fur - The "rotation" of the teeth helps wind the hair around the rake and is effective for long-haired dogs (over 3 inches) - There is a considerable difference (decrease) in the amount of fur that this rake ends up removing. I have to brush my dog every other day, and usually end up with a pile of hair the size of a baseball. With this rake, it was down to a ping pong ball of fur. Both measures include the "clean up" I do with a pin brush afterward, so they are comparable. - It's sturdy: I'm not concerned that the teeth are going to fall out of this rake, even if it does encounter a particularly difficult mat. CONS: - The teeth are noisy. If you have a pet who doesn't do well with sound, this is not the tool for you. The teeth of the rake rattle constantly while you're grooming your furry friend, and it even got on my nerves after a few minutes. My dog, who isn't generally sound averse, started getting edgey after a while, so I wouldn't recommend this for shy dogs. - Like most rakes / dematting tools, you're going to have to use a pin brush to clean up the stray hair. This tool is good at getting through matted fur, but it didn't do a great job at picking up the leftovers where my dog's fur was on the shorter side (less than 2-3 inches long). That said, it worked miracles with the very long hair in his ears and tail. - This rake really is only meant to be used when brushing along the natural growth of the hair - that's partially how it is able to decrease the amount of hair it pulls out. Thick undercoats won't do well if you try brushing against the growth with this rake - The handle is at an awkward angle compared to the angle of the teeth. It works well when brushing my dog's back, but when I used it to brush anywhere else (belly, legs, chest, neck, ears, tail), both me and my dog were doing contortions.

Why did I never hear of the Evolution before?!
My German Shepherd puppy recently ate our generic dog brush, so I did a little searching online to find a replacement. With two dogs (our other one is a lab mix) we have to vacuum our house at least every other day to keep up with the endless amounts of dog fur coating the floors. IT'S EVERYWHERE! I decided to try this one based on the reviews and am SO glad I did. It arrived today and both my seven-year-old and I were eager to try it out on the dogs. The Evolution took enough fur off of the lab alone to fill an ice cooler. I can't believe how much came off of her. I probably could have spent an half an hour brushing her, I was so amazed at how much fur it cleaned away. It was so easy to use and the fur is so incredibly easy to clean off the brush, unlike the old brush we had. It is a gentle and effective way to take of layers and layers of loose fur. Affordable, effective, and comforting to our dogs (when used gently...those teeth are pretty sharp), this is the best purchase I have ever made for them. If I could give it 10 stars, I would!!!!

Shedding Is Now Under OUR control. Cat hairballs and dog undercoat all gone!
I know people have said that the weak point of this product is that the handle breaks easily, so we're being careful with that. In all other ways this product does exactly what we needed. Our border collie's very thick undercoat came out easily without discomfort for him. On the contrary, he behaves as if he is getting the best massage of his life. It's hilarious! He loves it. We also have long-furred cats for whom spring is usually a misery of shedding and hairballs. One tends to get bad tangles and matts in her fur. Let me tell you--all of them like this rake and it gets the undercoat quickly and easily so they will be cooler, more comfortable, and less prone to that horrible ACKACKACK I'm-gonna-stain-the-carpet announcement all long-fur-cat owners dread. I myself use a CPAP at night and the straps in back of my hair tend to give me tangles in my super-fine hair. I resorted to trying this on myself a couple of days ago. It's a bit embarrassing to admit but it took MY tangles right out without pulling or discomfort. Honestly, if I had to go through raising little girls again, I'd want one of these to get the tangles from their hair. The tears and conflict over hair brushing would be gone. It flat-out works and works quickly and I'd bet it would work on any kind of hair, including any human hair. They should make and market a version for little girls whose mothers do battle every morning on tangled hair and tender scalps.

Evolution W6110 Grooming Undercoat Rake / Rotating Teeth Double Row
I just received Evolution Grooming Rake today . I tried the rack on my Siberian Husky Puppy and it worked beautifully. Picked up the undercoat hair very nicely. Loved the rotating teeth idea. didn't hurt the puppy's at all. He really loved it. This rake is really pretty sturdy too. I would have gave this item a 5 star rating except I thought it should be a little bigger in size. When my Husky gets full size a larger rake would cover more area. Plus I wish the handle was a little bit longer too. But all in all this really nice item to groom your dog. I also have a grown Cockapoo and I'm pretty sure this rake will help with his mated hair too.

Gentle on coat and works!
Purchased for my standard poodleโs thick tail which is difficult to brush out. It works very well to and my dog also finds it comfortable; no yanking as the tines roll!

This rake is good because it has two rows which catches the hair ...
I have a Siberian Husky so I have got a lot of different brushes to try and get out all her shedding undercoat. This rake is good because it has two rows which catches the hair better than one row. Also, because the pins spin it doesn't pull her hair at all like my other rake which is good on the parts of her hair that are rougher like her tail and hind legs. She actually really likes getting brushed with this since I guess it's kind of like a massage and doesn't hurt at all. It's good quality and easy to hold, the size is also good. Would defiantly recommend for dogs with thick, long double coats
