Why can't I have this product shipped to California? Is it illegal for some reason?
do i have to cut the crimped end of the hose to get it to work?

Best tool for bleeding brakes or changing oil. Love this tool. But has some issues.

I bought this unit in the larger size because I have a Dodge Cummins diesel that holds 12quarts of oil. I also have used it on my Prius and on my daughters sailboat Perkins motor. It has worked perfectly so far. Now for the best part. Last week I had to do rear brakes on my dodge diesel 3500. I had ordered the brake bleeder additional part. After replacing the pads I decided to do a brake fluid flush. I removed the master cylinder cap and was able to suck all the fluid out of the dual reservoir and refilled it with fresh fluid. Onto the furthest wheel from the master cylinder, turn the bleeder valve on this tool to off pump it down attach the hose to the bleeder, crack the bleeder and open the valve. Suck out enough fluid until fluid runs clear. Tighten down bleeder screw. Refill the master cylinder reservoir and repeat. Oh man, a one man bleeder and a huge tank so I never have to dump fluid between wheels. This thing worked great! I have used those finger pump bleeder suckers and they just suck at sucking and you have to empty them 3 times per wheel. Those finger pumper bleeders cost 2/3 of what this costs! So simple to use and works great. I will never bleed again with those finger pumps. This is so much easier! To bleed a car or truck was the best part of this tool. Sucking oil is just an added benefit. Buy this, it’s a no brainer.P.S. the screw ring on the suction side of the tank seems backwards. The tube flange is actually on top of the screw ring. The ring-screw does not hold the hose onto the tank. After much head scratching I simply thought it was just incorrectly made. I scoured the manual and ,as is typical of offshore made products, the manual was useless. Then, I called them. They said it’s correct and the ring is under the tube flange to help push the tube flange off if it needs changing. Why don’t they add that piece of info in the directions? Really stupid! If I were the design engineer, I would make the flange fit under the ring and be done with it and rewrite the instructions. It would cost a one time set up and problem solved but I’m not the engineer and it is made in China. All this said, it seems well made, despite that glitch, and I will continue to use this very effective tool. Some have said that the suction tube is too short, and it is. It will not reach into the pan on larger engines and the flexible tube behind the hard tube is too short so the tank can’t sit on the ground when pumping the handle on a large vehicle or one that is both tall and a large engine. Like my 4WD 3500 truck. A 3 foot solid tube pickup and a 4 foot longer tank to hard hose would have worked better. I fixed that at Home Depot for about 10 $ but it seems silly that I have to deal with these deficiencies instead of the manufacturer. Are you at OEM listening?! Fix this.

Quality unit

Worked just as it should with no issues. For the price, this is a great value compared to other units. Used this to remove fluid in my BMW X3 & X5 rear differentials. The unit removed the fluid quickly with no spills or leaks. Durable construction and the attachments worked perfectly. The size seemed to be a concern but not really an issue with the unit being tall because it's pulling fluid not pushing it; so laying it down doesn't effect function

Great tool

Works very well and is fast. As noted in other reviews the instructions are very poor but the use is self explaining. Also as noted the tank has no volume markings so you have to make your own. That being said I really am impressed with how fast and how little pumping I had to do. I warmed up my vehicle, removed the dipstick, inserted the small tube, pumped 20 times, watched about 4 quarts of oil come out, pumped 11 more times and was done. Entire time less than 5 minutes for 6 quarts. No muss no fuss.

This really is great for oil changes. The manual truly is worthless

You're probably about 90% committed to converting to doing oil changes by the dipstick method, but not sure which one of these extractors to buy and really wondering if this is a reliable method to do it. I looked at the various other extractors sold by HF as well as the MityVac model, and realized that they're all about the same and ultimately I chose this one mainly because of the large capacity (engine holds 9 liters) and the easy Amazon return policy. And go ahead and convert to the dipstick method, it's so much easier and faster, and the results are just the same as draining the pan. And FYI, Mercedes recommends the vacuum method vs draining the pan for their cars, which I confirmed with one of their mechanics. So I figured if Mercedes approves of this method, there must be something to it.As far as changing the oil via the dipstick, this is definitely the way to do it. All the advantages are real as well as the time savings of not having to lift/jack the car up. Also, this eliminates that remote chance of giving your wife PTSD when she finds you dead and crushed under your car after the jackstands fail.As far as this pump goes, it works great but as many other reviewers have noted, the included manual for this extractor is junk. There is zero helpful information in there. Honestly all the information you need is in these user reviews. Also, as many have mentioned, the device itself looks to be designed by a drunk engineer. Lots of times you'll look at it thinking "What in the world?" trying to figure out what one particular hole/fitting does, or the purpose of a seemingly random nut which doesn't seem to do a thing, or why there are various tubes and parts that don't seem to do anything. Somehow, magically, despite these oddities, the pump does a great job.This extractor removed and held 8.5 liters of oil without a problem in 10 minutes, with definitely room to hold another liter, so the 9.5 liters is probably correct. As others have noted, there are no marks on the container so there really is no way to tell if you got all the oil out or how much you've got out. I'd do what another reviewer had recommended and suck up however much quarts of water your engine is expected to hold, mark the cannister, and then proceed to drain the water out and suck up the oil. It's the only way to confirm that 1, your hose was long enough to get to the bottom of the oil pain and 2, that you got all the oil out. Keep in mind that your engine may be a quart low so don't get too alarmed if you're short. If you've done your own oil before, you should have an idea what your car uses up and what to expect. And no mention of this anywhere, but the only way to empty the container is to remove the intake hose and just dump it out of the large opening.I've now done 2 oil changes and a brake flush with this extractor, and it definitely has made things super easy. The inner diameter of the dipstick tube is small, so get your engine to operating temperature to make the oil easy to flow. The suction power is good, although really no way to get any idea of how much vacuum you're creating, and the plastic is thick and durable. I'm happy I have it and I'm happy with this new way to changing the oil. If only the manual was usable, this would be a 5 star product.
