Emerson1F83C-11NP Conventional (1H/1C) Non-Programmable Thermostat, White

We just had 2 installed in our home, one for a gas HVAC unit and one for an electric HVAC unit. We replaced two existing thermostats, one old and one new, because they were so darned hard to read! Too dark, especially at night. Had to keep flashlights handy just to read the screens, which were both way too small. These Emersons have large screens that light up briefly when you adjust the temp, but you can also light them up (briefly) via a button at the very top of the unit. You can also keep them lit if you have a certain wire configuration, which I'm not sure we have, but it is an option on the installer menu (need to read the user guide to learn how to access that menu; it's pretty simple). I don't think we would want them lit all the time since the screens are so big and the backlight is so bright. We had a plumber who was onsite to change a faucet install both thermostats. I watched him do it and am glad I didn't try it myself. It took him less than 15 minutes to do each one. I did point out to him, as I was reading the user guide to myself while he installed, that there was a separate setting for gas or electric. Since we had one of each, he made sure he set it correctly, so I'm glad I looked at the instructions. It has occurred to us that, with these new thermostats, we are having to adjust the temp less often. Seems like we were always getting up from whatever we were doing and adjusting the heat or air up or down. It was a way of life, so now that we don't have to do that, we realize the thermostat is regulating the temp and not just a mechanism to turn it on and off. Duh! I would recommend this thermostat if you want a very basic, adjust up or down, select heat or air, be able to read the screen in any type of light unit. No wi-fi or app or voice guide or remote access, just basic manual control.

easy to install instructions were easy to understand , All I had to change was the switch from gas to electric system.I like that the display is large and easy to read , nice large buttons , easy to adjust temps . seems accurate , heat shuts off just 1 deg above set temp, and never drops below set temp, ac temps are dead on,What I really like is the battery meter as You can see in the pick . no more guessing battery state good back lighting .wiring was a snap and this one does have the blue common wireTo date I have been thru 3 thermostats, one a white Rodgers that was getting just old and the buttons were wore out, went thru a couple of honey wells that worked for a year then just failed .I highly recommend this if you want a basic thermostat for a 1 heat and 1 cool systema LUX t stat that just had too much temp swing.EDIT be careful cleaning the unit , I tried using some Windex to clean the screen , caused it to short out so i had to buy another , not the products fault .

The media could not be loaded. The installation was simple and I like the thermostats simple yet cleab design. The reason I knocked off 1 star is the price should be closer to $40 than $50 as I don't see what justifies it to be almost $50. Also the backlight in the product image and on the box has a blueish hue when it fact is just normal whiteish backlit hue.

This non-programmable thermostat is wonderful. It is so easy and SIMPLE to use and it maintains the set temperature perfectly. It was easy to install I purchased this thermostat to replace a 10-year old Robertshaw 8600 programmable thermostat, which was very hard to program. The digital screen is 4.5" and easy to read, while the backlight works great. With a "C" wire hookup, this thermostat can keep the backlight on at all times. I am running my backlight with two AA batteries. The light turns on only when you press one of the thermostat buttons. It works GREAT!In conclusion, I have researched several different non-programmable thermostats including Honeywell and Robertshaw. In my opinion, this Emerson is the "BEST OF THE BEST". Thank you. So i had a new digital programable Honeywell thermostat. It was professionally installed by hvac company last summer when i updated my AC unit. It was very sensitive and would start my new lennox furnace we installed this winter every 10 mins but only at nights or when cold...smallest change in temp would trigger it to turn on the furnace. I started to worry about my furnace health from short cycling.Had the furnace company come out couple times, they checked out everything for short cycling and confirmed my fear that Honeywell thermostat was too sensitive.Bought and had this Emerson thermostat installed.It's been 5 days, and knock on wood....short cycling is gone...this thermostat is very good at holding the set temperature. It runs the furnace slightly longer but also doesn't turn it on at the smallest temp change.Also love that this unit does not have program feature as dont need it, does not have stupid digital touch screen, does not have/want wifi.Wish I had bought this earlier.

If you are looking to replace an existing HVAC single zone heat/cool thermostat or need one for a new installation, this is a great choice if you want something uncomplicated and accurate!
