Case of 6 Limited edition Ertl Collectibles Prestige Series Military Douglas DC-3/C-47 Replica Airplanes (R.A.F. Transport Command Operation Market Garden Arnhem Sept. 1944) in Royal Air Force Normandy invasion stripe livery. This historic aircraft was flown by Flt. Lt. David Lord, Arnheim Operation. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, only awarded to fighter pilots. A replica still exists as a museum piece and on active duty with the RAF. The model depicts aircraft KG374 YSL Squadron of Transport Command as depicted during operation "Market Garden" where British and Allied paratroopers were dropped behind enemy lines to capture a bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem. This operation was immortalized in the film "A Bridge Too Far". Printed on the plane is "YSL" and it also has other military markings on the wings and near the tail. This plane is a fully assembled, highly detailed, 1:72 scale (wing span of 15-3/4" x 10-1/2" fuselage), has retractable landing gear, rotating propellers, opening passenger/cargo door, recessed panel detail, tampo graphics and a die cast metal stand to display the plane as if it was "in flight." The color of this plane is camo with black and white trim and a light blue/green underbody. This plane was mfd in 1995 and is new in mint condition in the original mint unopened box. It is one of 7 military inspired DC-3 replicas made by Ertl. The DC-3 had fame in the military as well as in passenger and freight assignments. All branches of the armed forces used them during and after WWII. The DC-3 was called a C-47 by the US and used as a military transport (British RAF called them a Dakota). The plane also earned the generic nickname Gooney Bird. F495case
