what kind of leather is the middle part where the name brand is?

I'm not sure but it looks like cowhide just like my belt. I know that it is durable and has been through the wash numerous times without cracking or drying out. The web belt stitching on the leather is in good shape also. If it is fake leather it is darn good fake leather.

Are these metal free? My concern is with courthouse and airport security?

They attach to the belt, do you still have to remove your belt at the airport?

Is the part that attaches to the belt made of plastic or metal. I'm looking for medal ones because the plastic ones bend up under the stress.

Do these work if the belt is 1/4" wide? I would like to use these in conjunction with my gun belt.

they work fine with my Hanks gun belt. I had to reverse the front clips as they kept popping off every time I bent over. A few minutes with a seam ripper and some decent thread will do the job.
