Surveying Practice Problems

This book covers basic concepts -- calculating angles and areas and the like. The problems on the actual surveying exam are much more difficult and cover many more topics than this book addresses (PE Act questions and cut and fill, for instance). Do not rely solely on this book to practice!

Couldn't be much better!! For about $17. Extremely well-structured problem sets by topic, with solid, beautifully clear, graphic detailed solutions to each problem. His logic is just clear as a bell and not many print errors throughout the book. Remember Admiral Nelson, the great naval hero of England? Tim Nelson must be related!!Reference book or some prior knowledge of subject needed, although you can solve several initial problems with common sense. You could cheat and first go straight to his excellent solutions, but it is a lot better to tackle each problem before peeking at the solutions.The best approach is to have a good book at your side, like Cuomo's paperback, to get oriented to the subject; but, even Cuomo does not clearly define all terms as he should and I got in a rut doing only his book. I needed another fresh perspective.I recommend that you solve Nelson's problem sets with a surveying textbook alongside that completely defines, describes and explains each topic.You can bull your way through several problems via geometry, without much prior knowledge of surveying, but will eventually hit the wall without basic surveying techniques. I solved a bunch of his problems on my own and then read how he solved them.Nelson provides a refreshing complement to Cuomo's fairly well-written book that contains a more limited set of problems.It is such a joy to have found Nelson's book. I wish he wrote ALL the books on CE, seismic and surveying!! Then I'll bet that I'd pass that California PE exam for sure!!

Basically just blurry computer screen printouts of some review course that are impossible to follow.Pros: it has a nice cover picture

The text size is about the same as a child's book. Not worth it.
