An Actor Prepares

I am presently in an acting fundamentals college class. I asked my professor if he could recommend any book for his class, what book would he recommend? "An Actor Prepares" was his answer. I wasted no time getting my copy. I am thoroughly impressed with the book. It is a very interesting approach to teaching. It is my suggestion that any serious acting student start with this book. It will help envision your mindset. The first chapter is a really good start and will make anyone dream of the stage.

"An Actor Prepares" by Konstantin Stanislavski is a masterpiece that continues to shape the world of acting and theater. It is an indispensable resource for anyone interested in the art of performance, offering a rich blend of theory, practical exercises, and profound insights into the human psyche. Whether you're an aspiring actor, a theater enthusiast, or simply curious about the craft of acting, this book is a must-read that will forever change the way you perceive and appreciate the art of the stage.

I got to this book through my voice coach, who insisted I should read it. I had heard about Stanislavsky's technique before several times at music school and actors workshop, but I put it off as I was afraid it could be too technical. However, this book is an eye-opener, easy to follow, and the narrator's experience during his acting lessons and what he learned are very relatable as well.

Its a rough read, to be completely honest. Its not exactly thrilling, but if youre an actor this is a must read. Stanislavski set the bar for modern day actors/acting, and his teachings at the very least must be studied by any aspiring actor. Now, if your looking for something interesting to read. and youre NOT interested in acting and theatre, this probably isn't for you. I love acting, and i bought this for my class, but i'm not a very focused reader and this was a battle to get through. Physically, my copy was fine, i got a used one which i promplty spilled coffee all over and filled with highlights and notes ;) a personal touch i guess. Anyways, i'm very happy with my buy, the book was great quality, but its not for everyone.

An excellent book by the master of modern theorism of the acting class. A classic of its time. Much recommended.

I found this a very interesting read. It gives the reader the experience of being in an actual acting class. After a while you really feel you are part of the class. It wakes you up to certain realities and introduces you to some very useful techniques and principles. I recommend this book for any person who wants to be an actor.

The way it is written like a story makes it not only a brilliant read for any aspiring actor, but makes it fun for both actors and anyone looking for a good read. You learn alot about Stanislavski and about yourself.

It's THE book series for performing artists. Or anyone who wants more access to their creative energy. Just like Yoga/Pilates give you access to more of your own physical body, this does it for movement, creative awareness etc. It's a no brainer to read these, from whatever walk of life you are.

Poor-quality print-on-demand edition I was extremely disappointed by the quality. The copy I received was printed on demand by Amazon and feels more like a cheaply reproduced document than a properly published book. The paper, typography, layout and cover are all noticeably inferior to a standard trade edition. For an important acting text that I intended to keep, annotate and use for years, this is simply not the quality I expected. I am returning it and purchasing a proper publisher edition instead. Amazon should make it much clearer on the product page when customers are buying a print-on-demand reproduction.

Kostantin Stanislavsvky is ILLUMINATING. He knows ALL of the natural acting, its elementS, and its problems. After all, he is the father of modern acting

Awesome

A poor quality photocopy of the book lacking even publisher details. I hope it’s out of copyright!
