I normally charge 6 to 8 cells at a time. With 8 cells in the charger, charging takes about 12-16 hours. I'm not sure how much charge was left in the cells when put in the charger, but I estimate that it was somewhere around 1/4 charge remaining. The advantage of a slow charge is less internal stress of the battery, less chance of overheating. I had used a charger in the past that charges (up to 4 cells at a time) in only a couple hours, but the batteries got quite hot. This charger should eliminate that problem. Each cell bay is independent and makes it easy to charge a single cell. I haven't tested to see how fully the cells get charged before indicating the cell is charged. I rated down by one star because of the time to charge my cells as I think the charge rate could be higher, reduce charge time and keep cell temperatures low. Update: My initial evaluation is probably based on bad performance of my previous charger used on my rechargeable batteries. My previous charger would cause the batteries to get quite hot and I think not give them a full charge. The first round of charging the batteries in this new charger took much longer than I thought they should. I charge my batteries weekly (they get used all week). When I went the next round of charging yesterday, charging was much faster. I can only conclude that the previous charger didn't fully charge them, the new one did, and it didn't take long on the next charge cycle to bring the batteries up to a full charge without significant heating of the cells. I changed my initial 4-star to a 5-star rating.

It would have been 5 stars but I had to send the first one back. It is still a little too soon to tell if it will last or not. However, the 2nd one received worked really well ,all the lights worked,charging time seemed normal. I understand every now and then you will get a defective product,but the speed in which I got the replacement and the fact it works great is the reason for 4 stars instead of less.

I bought this product but I received a used one, so I returned and they sent a new one. It’s been working pretty good so far. Love the fact that it can charge different size batteries

so far, so good. I like how it will hold 8 AAA or AA at the same time. charge time is sightly slower than the 4-bay counterpart. easy to use wih the outlet plug and batteries slid into place easily. battery fuel gauge is nice but approximate good value with the Amazon Basics rechargeable batteries

I picked this up to charge a bunch of batteries at once, and it’s been a practical charger. The biggest advantage is the individual slots. It worked right out of the box and has been reliable so far. Charging is straightforward, and the indicator lights make it easy to tell what’s done and what’s still charging. It’s not the fastest charger out there, but it gets the job done.

This worked well with both sizes. The batteries didn't heat up.
