I got it working ok, now it's great.
I have reservations about giving this five stars, but..... it is a beautiful thermostat that was easy to install. It controls perfectly. The HVAC guy who replaced my air handler told me get a Honeywell. I wanted one that auto switched between cooling and heating. We also wanted a nice display. It does both. The temperature display is huge. I can read it across the room in the dark. It also can be controlled from multiple smart phones and computers. Pretty handy if you are in bed or traveling. The connection plate has a good layout that is easy to use, read, and get wires to. Big plus! Once you snap it on the plate it is a bear pulling off again. You better have secure mounting screws or you will pull them out. This looks like it does not have battery back up, but uses capacitors. They won't keep your program for a year, but probably a few weeks without power, and you never have to change them. I think that is good enough. So why lower marks. First of all I had to call customer service for advice. I was on hold for an hour and a half! That's pathetic. I think after five minutes customer service lines, particularly ones in India, ought to start putting money in your phone account like a reverse 900 number. By the time I got this lady from Punjab online I had read the rather thorough manual cover to cover and figured it out. So here were the problems. The setup never talks about automatic switching between heating and cooling. Plus it is not on the mode menu. No, you have to go to preferences, then advanced preferences and in there you can turn it on. It is way back in the manual.. Why do they want to deter you from doing one of the main features to buy a $170 thermostat for? That's BS too! FYI you have to have at least a 3 degree difference between heat and cool settings. That seems reasonable. This is our third Smart WiFi thermostat. We had a Nest in our old house. They are really nice, but sell your conversations from the microphone to the highest bidder. The nest is cake walk to set up. The other was a refurbished Emerson Electric that could not turn on the emergency heat. We returned it. Both this one and the Emerson read the room temperature way high. Like 4 degrees high. What is that about? We can read the temperature in a crater on the moon from Earth within a tenth degree, you can't get this right?Anyway they have an adjustment in the settings to correct this. This one was off 4 degrees. I mean I am an instrumentation engineer. I have got more thermometers than NASA. I know what it should be. The problem is they only have a plus or minus 3 degree adjustment. I think it is in degrees Centagrade (1.8ยฐF), because 3 degrees overcorrected for the 4 degree error. I dropped the correction to 2 degrees C, now its perfect I just don't get how they screw this up. It really is a nice thermostat, once you get the quirks beat out of it. We have had it for a few weeks now. I love in more than once I got it working right. It is rock steady holding temperature. If it gets off by more than 3ยฐF low it throws on the emergency electric heating. That happened when I first turned it on and it was cold. I love the external (internet) temperature display. It has text telling you what mode it is in.

Really good thermostat
Excellent Thermostat. Very easy installation, works well, looks good, easy to operate. It linked up with my Honeywell home app in just a few steps. I can now operate the thermostat from anywhere. Love that I can change the background colors. I highly recommend this product.

The phone app from Honeywell/Resideo makes this wonderful!
See a couple of my amateur install tips at the end of my review. I just bought two of these for upstairs and downstairs to replace the hard to see, hard to program and non-wifi thermostats that came with our Carrier HVAC system. These Honeywell Thermostats are miles ahead of the ones I replaced. Install was super easy, they are easy to see and program and the touch screens (while not as good as your phone touch screens) work pretty well. The real prize with these thermostats is that once hooked up and setup they work perfect either direct touch or via your wifi using a phone or tablet app. My wife is a low-tech person and she says these are easy to use. She really is the ultimate user-friendly test at our house. So here are a couple of things I figured out during install: 1) Make sure all of the power is off when you uninstall the old thermostat and install the new ones. I turned off the power to furnace and A/C but the circuits were mislabeled so the thermostat wires sparked and caused the furnace circuit board to trip due to a "short". After the install was complete and the thermostat failed to start I powered off the entire system and restarted it. The new thermostat came right up and walked me through the setup. The second one installed flawlessly because I shut the power off correctly. 2)Take a pic of the thermostat wiring and also write down the wire colors because you will be hooking up the same wires to the same terminals on the new thermostat. It's simple. 3) There are two apps available for your phones/tablets. The Total Comfort Connect one by Resideo was the one I liked best but there is also a Honeywell Home app that works fine. The Resideo app has more info and the user interface is really good. My wife likes the Honeywell app because it is really simple...like, up and down arrows to change temp on the front page and today's weather for our zip code. If you want to do anything else you dig for it. The Resideo has a few extras for programming a schedule. I just like the control, my wife doesn't. The beauiful part is that you can have both apps on the same phone and they all work fine together. I think Resideo took over the Honeywell home thermostat business...there is some relationship there. 4) It will hook up to Alexa if you use the app. The Alexa handling of the thermostat is kinda clunky and we probably won't use it. Nice try Alexa! 5) When you setup the thermostat be ready with your wifi name and password. Also you will need to set up an account at Honeywell but it only took, maybe, a minute or two. Very non-threatening! Finally, we love these thermostats. It is nice to leave the windows open when the weather is nice and with the wifi phone apps it is a snap to turn off our hvac systems without running up and downstairs and fooling around with the wall mounted thermostats. Best tech money we've spent in a long time.

Easy install, setup, and scheduling
Been using this for about a week now, keeping a close eye on this thermostats operation, and after reading the manual that covers all the smart tech, am pretty happy with its operation. They look nice, can dim pretty low so not to be a problem at night, and work well with Alexa to change the temp. The scheduling has lots of options, including the fan circulate feature that runs the blowers for a little while each hour. My gripes so far revolve around the associated app, and minimal Alexa features. The App doesn't display correctly for me. I am running a Razer Phone with Android 8.1; so maybe that can help the devs make it look better. The temperature selection area is cut off, and some of the options for the scheduling and their "store" are showing up as broken image links. It also forces landscape mode, so I cannot access the portrait mode that apparently has more options for controlling the thermostat. The scheduling portion of it is also weird; you can set your schedule up line by line, which works fine. If you go to the part where you select S, M, T, W, T, F, S, when you hit done it asks if you want to set up another day; choosing no does nothing, where choosing yes kind of saves your progress but brings up another weekly schedule. You have to hit the 'back' button on the phone then hit submit, and it works. It just doesn't flow very well. Otherwise the app does look nice, and it is user intuitive. It doesn't allow screenshots though, which I find a bit weird. Perhaps the broken features are a result of my VPN and PiHole blocking advertisements. Alexa integration is for changing the temp only. It works well, and the schedule picks back up to put things back to normal after the voice changed temp. What I'd really like is to also be able to control the AC system's fan to go on and off, but this isn't necessary as it's already scheduled to circulate. All in all, these are good devices. I have yet to monitor their internet traffic (when I get free time I'll capture their C2 traffic and see how that looks) which I've read must go to a Honeywell server in order to use the remote features. Makes sense, but I'd be happier knowing what data is on the wire.

Better Than Nest
I previously had a Nest thermostat. It was having issues sending the start signal to the condenser unit so my house would get very warm. I replaced it with this Honeywell unit. This thermostat works flawlessly. It also connects to my Alexa app and remote control has no issues either. Easy to install and setup. I recommend this thermostat to anyone looking to add a quality, affordable smart option to their home.

constantly loses time setings and programming
UPDATE AFTER 3 YRS: DO NOT BUY! As of now I have to give this a DO NOT BUY rating. Sorry Honywell but you missed the mark big time. I LIVE IN CENTRAL MICHIGAN - the king of power surge/outages. I have to reset the time on this thermostat every week and every month or so it completely forgets all programming. What is going on? No battery in this means every power surge and brief outage scrambles its brains. Honywell cheaped out to save a few cents and I, the consumer suffer for this. This unit should have included a battery to provide constant power and keep it from constantly needing to be reset. I gave it a dedicated power supply but that does not keep it from being effected when a power serge or brief outage occurs. Now I am going to have to spend much more on a dedicated ups just for this. Or, find another model to install that includes a battery so it don't loose all setting at every one of my many power hiccups that happen almost every day here in MI. I have a large UPS that runs my TV and entertainment center. I am going to rewire that to the location right beside may main panel on a dedicated circuit. Then rewire some house circuit to plugs right beside the UPS then get some short jumper cords and plug them from the ups to the power outlet. One of these will power this forgetful thermostat. I will consult an electrician to be sure this will meet code, not sure if I can do this at this point, but this is the plan as of now. If this don't meet code then I will buy a small UPS and dedicate it just to power this thermostat and hook it up at the power supply plug in point. I LIVE IN CENTRAL MICHIGAN - the king of power surge/outages. As of now I have to give this a DO NOT BUY rating. --------------/Original review below/--------------- I bought this for my 20 yr old gas furnace. I had to run a new cable as my old cable did not have a C wire. I bought before Christmas and let it set around as I did not want to mess with my HVAC system and possibly mess it up during the holiday. The thermostat wiring was an abysmal mess partly due to a humidifier installation that has wires running seemingly everywhere. My home inspector warned me that my furnace was 20 yrs old and it was probably going to fail in the next 1 to 3 yrs. Guess what... it failed. I got 11 months out of it after buying the house. Fast forward to 4.5k new furnace install. While negotiating that with the HVAC guy I asked him to hook up my new Thermostat. I said the wire was already ran and the new thermostat will be screwed down, all your guys will need to do is hook it all up. I could have at that point but figured if the pros are here why not let them do it. I bought the small power supply to power this thermostat and wired that in so it has a dedicated power supply. Needed to do that due to the humidifier power hooked up to the HVAC unit. So that is how I got this thermostat installed. It took the HVAC crew about 1/2 hr to run down the humidifier wiring and integrate that into the wiring on the new furnace so the fan wire turns on my humidifier. I can turn on the fan and it runs the humidifier, if the humidifier itself is switched on. Humidifier normally runs when the heat comes on, as I wanted. So.. I spent forty five hundred bucks to install this thermostat along with a new furnace plus got my humidifier working. All is well. I do like this thermostat as of now. It was so easy to program I did not even need the instructions. I have not connected it to the internet. Don't really want to, don't need to.

Excellent
Fantastic product, looks high tech and is extremely configurable. I love the circulate air feature, which will run the fan some even if the AC or heat is not needed. And mobile app support, as well as their website. You can even change the color themes and it shows outside weather with one touch.

Very Nice Thermostat
My old thermostat was just On/Off, Heat/Cool and Old. I'm slowly turning my home into a Smart Home, and this fit my needs prefectly. It fits very close to the wall, has a great display, very easy to install and set up. It has so many different features. It allows you to change temperature temporarily, like when you have company and you want to lower or raise temperature during their visit, but return to your normal setting after they leave without having to manaully adjust it back or forget to. You can set multiple timers/schedules, reminders for annual service and filter changes. The display can be adjusted for brightness and you can change the background color. Once connected to wifi it displays outside conditions and humidity levels inside and out. You can download their app and control it with your phone. Also, it works great with Alexa. First night after installing I was able to adjust temp by telling Alexa instead of getting out of bed ๐ Great product, good price and highly recommend.

Works with Amazon Alexa
Installation was easy other than getting it set-up with the Honeywell account. I'm using it at work for a radiant tube heater. The device wasn't detected at Honeywell even though it connected to the Internet no problem. I actually left it for several months because I didn't have time to reset it to factory defaults and start over again. This is for my shop at work and the guys needed heat. So I just got around to trying again about a month ago and it is recognized now (without resetting to default). Not sure when it was recognized on my Honeywell account, might have been 2 hours later, 2 weeks later, 2 months later. Don't know because I just checked it again recently. LOL. So not sure I would hold that against them. Once it was recognized on my Honeywell account then it worked great through the app and web page; exactly as expected. Today I decided to connect it to my Amazon Alexa devices we have scattered around the office and shop. Downloaded the skill and it works great. Very simple to use. "Alexa what is the temperature in the SHOP?", "Alexa set the SHOP to 70 degrees." Works perfectly and very quickly. I like it so much that I came on here to give a review and also to buy another for the office. I read a review where someone who bought this wasn't happy with the screen. Made me take a second look at mine. It is dull when its not in use but as soon as you press the screen it brightens up. You can see this in 2 of the pictures I attached. Everything is personal preference of course and I'm not discounting what the other buyer said, but I find the screen looks great. Full disclosure, this is my first smart thermostat so I'm not comparing it to anything else.
