Does the job on bass guitar at a fraction of the cost
With arthritis spreading into my wrists and fingers, I felt my bass playing had become sloppy with some notes sounding louder than others. I have used Behringer products before and found them ok so bought the compressor to give me a little help. The CS400 does the job and my bass playing now sounds as even and percussive as it always was. At under £20, it is a bargain and is as effective as the more expensive boxes on the market. I only tweak the pedal but it is capable of far more and would recommend it. I have given 1 less star for durability as obviously metal cases are better but don't worry about the plastic casing, it's solid and should take the traumas of gigs easily and at this price you could buy several.

Sustainer?
If you have a problem with sustain, you have a problem with your guitar or your playing technique. If you're looking to even out slight level imbalances between strings, different guitars and/or your rhythm playing, then this'll do fine. Compressors work by turning down any signal that's louder than a predetermined level to bring the loud bits closer in level to the quiet bits and then turning everything up to an acceptable level. Bear in mind ALL guitar signal has some degree of background noise present, so when you turn up the quiet bits, you are also turning the noise up. Anyway, bought one of these (and a GE700) for my dear old Dad. I already own the Boss pedals that these are obviously cloned from - same colour schemes and similar model numbers? Who are they kidding? What can I say? It does everything it's supposed to do. I tested using an EMG equipped Strat through a Blackstar ID15TVP at my home - which was rewired a few years ago - and a new battery, so zero noise pollution. Is it noisy? No, not in the slightest. If you use an old/cheap guitar with dodgy soldering/wiring, through a high gain setup and valve amp, in a building with questionable wiring... well, ALL compressors are going to be very noisy. Why a quarter the price of the Boss? Made in China, (probably) using very cheap electronics with wide tolerance specs and the casing is moulded plastic. Like I said, it does exactly what it's supposed to do. The casing will only break if you're an idiot. The electronics? Who knows. Let's face it, if you're reading this you're either just starting out or strapped for cash, right? Yes, buy one of these, BUT do a little reading about what compression is about and don't expect miracles. This is a good piece of kit. The more expensive stuff is probably more durable, but by the time you break this, hopefully, you'll have figured out whether you really need one - I've rarely used one in over 30 years of playing.

for this price you will not be disapointed.
from the off, ive heard all sorts of stories a about these pedal. all im going to sayu is if this pedal is in your price range this is the pedal to buy, constructed of plastic, its never going to be one you chuck about, but if you wanting a pedal that does the job, well and not going to leave you out of pocket, go for this pedal, its well made, decent sockets adjusters the lot. the compresser is very good, sustain is decent too, being using it with both over drive and distortion and it works an absolute treat. not a Boss Pedal, but a lot better than i expected. in fact so much , i bought 2 others from the range and there just as good :)

Does exactly what it says on the plastic case!
This works perfectly as a compressor/limiter and the tone knob is a useful addition - I will primarily use it as limiter, but it also works really well as a sustainer - very good value for money if you want to smooth out those peaks/troughs on a tight budget...

Very Useful on Any Pedal Board
This is the first Compressor Pedal I've ever used. Only ever used Built in Amp or Rack Compressors. I bought this based on reviews and I'm impressed. It balances the highs and lows nicely while giving a nice sustain. Gives a nice clean and clear clipped sound in clean playing. And smooths out the over tones in distortion sounds. My only criticism is there is a little bit of noise. But this was easily corrected using a noise gate/killer/suppressor. If your looking for a nice balanced sound, I'd definitely recommend this pedal. Another good Berhinger clone. A Compressor isn't a Thrash Metal Effect, set it, leave it. It's Plastic but it will last you, unless your a 'Who' Tribute Band. Or Elephant on Dope!

cheap Byrds' sound!
The premise was very simple, get the Byrds sound.. I already had the main tool, a Rickenbacker 360/12 but was like "something" was missing. Of course! a compressor/sustain pedal (aside of Mcguinn skills...but that is another story :P ) The natural choice is the famous "janglebox" but,oh man, 230 pounds! no way Jose. For the pro player (or tribute band player) that pedal is just an investment and a MUST (mainly in the second case),but for myself there is not point to spend that money. So after made a research finally I found this Beheinger pedal (I already have other two with EX results). Sadly I didn't find any sound demo with a Ric on youtube or any post around the web,but well, only 20 pounds! If it doesn't work as expected I always can return it to amazon. Voila! excellent!!! conpression and sustain to the max without any invasive or awkward humm or hiss ! great 60s sound for £20! tested with: ric 360/12 v9 adaptor on pedal (not battery) vox AP2 plug2 ac30 with Bose headphones (no,my head didn't exploits like a "Scanners" film character,so not hiss or humm over the standards)

Good, but...
Not a bad little pedal, does the job it's supposed to do, the only real problem with it is that it's not true bypass, so it changes the sound of the guitar. For instance, it made mine way too bassy. The casing is a little cheap-feeling, but I think it would stand up to normal use.

Cheerful Price, Only Some Limitations.
Hmmm...I have several of the effect pedals in Behringer's excellent "budgety" range and I think they are great. Well made, thoughtfully designed, easy to use. Creatively, they are good to work with as they are intuitive (you turn nobs until it sounds right- it's not a mission to Mars type software bore). So, the Compressor/Sustainer : how is it? I am using it for electric guitar work being fed in to a mutitrack recorder, the notion being that compression should help parts to "blend"in rather than sounding like a guitar part is STUCK-ON to another piece of music. And do you know what?...it does that. It' is also good for punchy bass guitar and keyboards that sound less muddy. Just one thing...with the Sustain effect (it works) turned up, there is a lot of noise and hiss coming from the unit- unfortunately this is a bit like having a stone in a running trainer: it doesn't STOP me enjoying the other features, but every now and again "CROWNCH!" there it is. Mocking my dreams. I'm renaming it Compressor and Gramophone Sampler.

Easy to adjust and sounds great
Ive been using this compression pedal for a while now and I’m really impressed it smooths out my playing nicely keeps the volume consistent and adds a nice touch to my tone without sounding artificial The controls are easy to adjust so I can dial in exactly the sound I want.

Buen compresor/sustainer

Consigliatissimo!
