Q: Can you use one burner at a time (to save fuel, if you only need to heat one item), or do both burners heat up automatically?

Yes you can use one at a time. This is a nice back up stove. Does not heat stuff very fast and does not work well in the wind

Q: Anyone have thoughts about this stove vs the classic coleman 2-burner stove? any reason why i shouldn't buy this one instead of the other?

The older style Colman is much heavier and has a windscreen for inclamate conditions. This one is more compact and lighter for a space minded car camper. I have both and the food and go seems to get used more on weekend trips and the older model on longer excursions.

Q: what are the dimensions ?

It is approximately 12"x24" & 4" high. It works great. Taking it camping again next week; my 4th use of it.I recommend the carrying case.

Great piece of kit

We've had all sorts of camping stoves and this is easily the best. Nothing is perfect and you do have to do a bit a assembly before you cook, but after that it's excellent... and it looks pretty cool and packs away to the fraction of the size of a conventional double burner.
