Simple, accurate, well-made, robust
Before buying this I bought a £17 digital calliper from Sealey which was so inaccurate (it drifted by as much as 40mm) and so poorly made that I sent it straight back for a refund and looked for an analogue calliper instead. Mitutoyo are a brand I know as I've encountered their large-scale industrial measurement instruments at work so I trusted them to make good quality kit. Having said that, I also trusted the Sealey brand too. This Mitutoyo calliper is almost 3 times the price of the Sealey digital one and it doesn't have the added cost of the digital readout so I'd expect it to be a lot better, but the truth is the two products are a world apart. This is a simple, well-made, robust, precision tool that allows you to accurately measure to within 0.02mm. None of this could be said for the digital calliper that I tried first. You could say this is simply a case of 'you get what you pay for'. But it's also the fact that it's easy to be lured by things like the ease and simplicity of a digital readout, but it's a false benefit. The simplicity and ease of use of this analogue calliper easily matches a digital one and it's far more accurate and not prone to error (at least only to human error). Thoroughly recommended, though if you're not old enough to remember slide rules, you'll need to read the instructions (which are very simple by the way).

Precision instrument
Extremely well made and easy to use. Not a heavy duty item and perhaps less robust than the digital type - but it does not need batteries and you can see that it is reading correctly.

Just Buy It
It might seem expensive at first, but if you care enough to need calipers in the first place, you might as well have precise and accurate ones. People don't realize that a cheap unreliable pair of calipers is just about as good as a tape measure... And yes, much of it is the brand name, but the difference is that Mitutoyo, Moore & Write, and Starret all have something to loose by producing inaccurate imprecise instruments..., Everything. Cheaper brands can afford to have people just not buy their instruments because it won't stop people from buying their other tools like screwdrivers; companies like Mitutoyo don't have anything else, if people don't buy their instruments, they don't make money full stop. Overall, sold pair of vernier calipers, perfect if you don't wanna think about batteries and stuff.

Quality all day long.
This caliper is at the top of its game, buy quality buy once. Easy to read and well made. If you're buying a caliper that you think you will use a couple of times a week, don't mess about and just go for it!

Tool of good quality.
Very nice instrument of good precision and high quality for a modern day of cutting costs. Definitely not a counterfeit, although I agree with some points of TurtleFoot's review. This model doesn't have fine adjustment screw. Well, it's not as good as a German tool from 1930s, but still quite nice instrument in my opinion.

Quality product
I chose a Mitutoyo product based on their reputation and on other reviews and I am not disappointed. Looks and feels like a quality tool, a pleasure to use. I have the eyesight typical of a sixty something, but have no problem reading the Vernier (with glasses!). My only criticism is the plastic storage wallet supplied: It really isn't going to protect it, I am looking for an alternative. I bought it primarily for use at home in my amateur radio / electronics workshop. It appears to be a genuine Mitutoyo product, if it isn't, its a very good fake!
