## Overview

The Chef'sChoice Pronto Hone is a compact, 2-stage manual knife sharpener designed for 15-degree straight-edge and serrated Asian-style knives. Perfect for busy home chefs seeking professional-level sharpness without the hassle of electric sharpeners or stones.

## Description

Chef'sChoice 463 Pronto manual Asian/Santoku sharpener is the fastest manual sharpener on the market. The 463 includes 2 stages, one for sharpening and a second for honing/polishing for a razor-sharp, arch-shaped edge that is strong and durable. 100-percent diamond abrasives are used in both stages 1 and 2, and the diamond abrasive wheels will hold their shape indefinitely (unlike ceramic wheels which lose shape over time). Crisscross sharpening technology creates an extremely sharp edge with lots of bite. Diamond abrasive wheels sharpen simultaneously in and out for a superior burr-free edge. Micron-size diamond abrasives in stage 2 leave your knife with a super-sharp, polished edge. The precise bevel angle control sharpens to an ultra-sharp, Asian-style, 15-degree edge. The Pronto is safe to use on straight-edge and serrated Santoku and other double-bevel Asian-style knives.

Review: Perfect for my needs - There are two types of people looking at this knife sharpener: (1) people who just want to make their knife more usable in the kitchen, and (2) people who are nerding out about sharpening their knives, but have hesitation. This knife is the best option for (1). Last year I purchased a nice chef's knife for the first time. After a year of use it had grown dull. I needed to sharpen it, so I started researching how to sharpen knives. I watched videos about sharpening with stones, and reviews of electric and manual sharpeners. The type (2) people all recommend stones; they talked about how easy it is, how sharp you can get, etc. I wanted to take care of my knife because I want it to last a lifetime. These people were pushing me to join them in camp (2), but I ultimately realized I am in camp (1). Yes my knife is nice, but I don't need to sharpen with stones to take care if it. Now it was time to narrow down my decision between electric and manual. This was the only manual option I considered because it was recommended by America's test kitchen. They suggested electric options are better because they are easier to use and produce a sharper knife, but I feel like that guide is wrong for most people. Most home cooks are not looking for a razor sharp knife. You want your knife to slice through tomatoes without smushing them, but besides that who really cares? I guess the only legitimate downside of this device is it may scratch the sides of your knife slightly, but my knife is a tool, not a relic to be polished to perfection. This manual sharpener is cheap, stores nicely in my kitchen, was stupid easy to use, and brought my knife back to factory sharpness. Of course this device will not sharpen your knife as well as electric or stones, but I don't need that. As for price, there are cheaper options out there, but I trust America's test kitchen more than desertcart reviews. If you are brave you could try a cheaper option with a similar design, just make sure it uses diamonds for the grinder, has at least two finishing levels, and produces a 15 degree bevel. TL;DR This sharpener gets the job done for a home cook, it's cheap, and it doesn't take up much space in the kitchen.
Review: Shocking how well this works! - Hi All, So I purchased this Chef's Choise Pronto Asian knife sharpener -- after owning this now for a couple of years, I have nothing but great things to say about this little guy. Now I have some Shun knives, namely, a Shun classic 8" chef's knife, a Shun Elite 6.5" Santoku, a Shun Premier Chefs knife, and a few other smaller Shun knives as well. I was VERY afraid of initially using this device, for the fear of ruining the edges on knives costing upwards of $100.00 per piece. Shun knives do provide you with lifetime free sharpening, but you have to send off your knives, and I just didn't want to send all my knives away every few months and be without knives for a while. So after reading some good reviews here on desertcart, I decided to give this thing a go... The first knife I tried it on was my little 3.5" shun paring knife. Figured if it did F my edge up, it would be only my smallest, cheapest knife. Boy was I wrong -- it got the blade RAZOR, and I mean razor sharp. You simply do a few pulls through the Opening 1, and then follow it up / hone it on the 2nd opening. If your knives aren't too dull, you can skip the 1st slot and run them righ through the 2nd slot. That gave me the courage to try my hand at some of the biggger knives, and I achieved the same result, with just as much of a super sharp edge. I dare say this sharpener gets the knives sharper than they came from the factory. I was also worried that this sharpener would alter the blade edge up due to the fact that asain knives have finer degree edges, so I wasn't sure if it would sharpen according to these specialized edges -- but again, no problems -- edges look clean and smooth -- and as far as I can tell, this thing doesn't take off too much steel either. Some have commented that after pulling your knives through the slots, the sides of the blade get scratched up -- I never had this problem -- you just need to maitain the proper position of the blade/knife when running it. So what cam I say, for $40.00 bucks, you just can't go wrong. Dull knives simply rub me the wrong way and ruin foods -- if you can't stand dull kitchen knives, but don't want to deal with the trouble of sharpening them yourself, or having them sent away, this is a great solution. Highly recommended!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fair knife sharpener
*by D***S on August 15, 2025*

Works ok, not easiest ever used but will improve edge. Caution- it changes blade edge angle to 15 degrees. Not a robust angle but sharp, and requires resharpening every three weeks. Also sharpener lasts about 18 months. Was good at $28 (Jan2024) not buying at $44 (Aug2025)
