very informative, interesting, good read

These are essentially shots that never made it to publication. But in this tome are back stories as to why, or what was published instead and why, to often include some lesser known facts on the subjects. Great insights, but still, some sadness is felt when we realize that at the time some of these poignant shots were not deemed worthy of publication…at a time when mainstream news journals didn’t want to seem too black.

This book was purchased for a friend who was quite pleased with the photos and articles.

I bought this book for my girlfriend who has a strange idea of life in the US for black folks. She was raised in Hanoi and we both live in Hanoi and I'd guess she could count the number of black folks she's ever seen on on hand. I stressed to her that most of these photos are ages old. She absolutely loves the book as I did when I thumbed through it before giving it to her. This is a photographic record of the old days, back when the US was still a free country.

It is a fact that our country has a dark side to our history, but it has to told. Instead of trying to erase it, we should all want to work together to ensure that going forward our history unifies us as a whole.

The media could not be loaded.  The book is just as expected. I love the information and all the pictures. I would recommend this to anyone interested in American history
