REVISED: AMAZING Customer Service, Quality Product.
Instead of just returning this to Amazon and trying another product, I decided to contact the company. They were AMAZING!!! They immediately identified the problem, asked me for the batch number, and quickly sent out a new timer that worked perfectly. They even gave me a few tips on how to pry open the back cover and said to enjoy the original broken timer if I was able to get the back cover off. Their tips work and so we have a backup timer (albeit one without a sturdy battery cover) I would definitely buy from this company again based on the customer service along but the timer is great as well. It is easy to set and hear when it goes off. The red is easy to see from a distance and my 2 year old daughter loves checking to see if the "Red is gone yet." The handle is great for moving the timer around and it seems sturdy enough although we have not dropped it yet. Original Review: Unfortunately the screw in the back would not come out so that we could put a battery in so the timer was useless. Going to try a different brand.

Great for virtual school
I bought this to keep my 5th grader on track with her work while she does school virtually. It's a great size and the handle is nice to carry it from room to room. She easily sets the timer to keep track of reading and time on other activities. You can turn the sound on if your child needs an extra reminder or off if your child is sound-sensitive. She does sometimes move the timer to give herself more time for preferred activities, but that is not the timer's fault :) Update: Timer stopped working after about 1.5 years of use. I’ve had others for work that I bought before this one that are still going strong. Disappointing. I tried changing the battery several times and it just does not reliably run anymore. I’m sure it’s just a defect of this particular one.

I absolutely LOVE it!
Just got my Time Timer Plus today and the verdict is... I absolutely LOVE it!!! 10 stars!! I had spent quite some time researching all kinds of timers on Amazon before I decided on this one. My original search was for a "Pomodoro" type timer, as this was the recommended time management technique I wanted to follow. However, after looking at lots of tomatoes, chickens, eggs, and other critter-shaped kitchen timers and reading all kinds of reviews I steered away from the mechanical timers. I discovered that most of them (if not all) are making a "ticking" sound when counting down, which could be very annoying and distracting, especially when you are trying to concentrate on your work. Then I looked at a bunch of digital timers and read lots of reviews on those. But digital timers display... well... digits, and don't give you a clear and instant at-a-glance realization of how much time has elapsed and how much time you've got left, especially for a "visual" kind of person (I am one). You have to stop and "process" in your mind what those digits mean. Plus, it becomes almost a part-time job constantly setting it all up and resetting it if you want to follow the "Pomodoro" technique, which is (25 minutes work + 5 minute break) x 4 = 1 cycle, and you do several of these cycles per day... You'd need to push the 'minutes' button until you've set the desired number of minutes, then push the 'seconds' button to set the seconds, and after the time is up and you want to set it for a 5 minute break (per "Pomodoro" technique), you'll need to re-set and re-push all those buttons again, and then, after a 5 minute break, repeat all the button-pushing to set it up for another 25 minute period of work, and on and on... PLUS, a lot of the reviews I read mentioned that those digital timers had a very loud and unpleasant "shrill" when the time is up. Again, not something you'd want to hear multiple times a day every day (if you do "Pomodoro"). And THEN I found this one. And what a beauty it is! :-) The size (I got a 7 inch one, but there are also 3, 8, and 12 inch ones) is small enough to sit on your desk and large enough to glance at from a distance when you're taking a break. It's an "analog" type clock face (my kind of clock), but there are no hands. Instead, a red area that magically disappears as the timer counts down gives you an instant and very visual recognition of how much time you've got left. It is absolutely silent, and only at the end it gives you 4 "beep-beep" sounds. You can adjust the loudness of this beep sound, or even make it completely silent, on the back panel. The timer needs 1 AA battery (not included). There is no on/off switch and it's not intended for you to take the battery in and out (the battery cover is secured with a screw). So the timer just "lives" with the battery in it, like a regular clock or flashlight or CD player would. All it takes to "operate" it is to turn the knob in the center of the clock face to adjust the "red area" to your desired time (up to 60 minutes). Then you just let go and the timer is already working. You see time elapsing "with a quarz watch precision" as the red area takes less and less of the clock face and finally disappears into the "zero". Bottom line: PERFECT for time recognition and time management, from kids to grown-ups! (Now my husband wants one for himself, too!)

Awesome timer to use with kids!
This timer allows a child to see time pass as the color slowly turns to white, and to hear when time is up when the 'beep' sounds. I love the fact that I can adjust the volume on the alarm - so very important when you work with little kids who can quickly become overwhelmed by a loud sound (or who completely ignore a quiet sound!) My only negative about this timer is the price. I would love to have several more to use throughout the clinic but they are just too pricey.

Great timer that can really help with motivation - much ...
Summary: Great timer that can really help with motivation - much better than anything else, including an egg timer. You can use with productivity techniques such as the Pomodoro method. Get it! Pros: - Lightweight and not too large - Convenient handle - Can be loud enough on highest setting to hear over noise isolating headphones - Seems accurate - Easy to set and easy to read Cons: - The knob way of setting this is nice and easy, but feels a bit flimsy and may break soon during transport - I would suggest some sort of protection for it. It also can turn itself on while its jostling around in a backpack or something. - Price... Too expensive for what it is and the tech it has inside, but there are few options out there so its understandable.

Functions Randomly Ceased to Work
It is, to me, a shame to join my voice with the other 1-star reviews, as in theory, this is a great product. However, it is now clear that it is entirely unreliable and the manufacturing likely lacks appropriate quality control. About 1-2 months into my using the Time Time 120 minute (infrequent use!), I began to notice that my tasks were feeling like they were taking a lot longer than the time I had allotted for them. Each time, I would look up, and lo and behold, there would be a reason for it! The timer had wound down, but had failed to alert me with a "Beep beep." I checked the volume knob, thinking I had accidentally turned the volume down. No, it was right where I left it. I began needing to crank the volume knob up higher and higher to get it to beep. 40% and below were completely silent. The required location I needed to crank it up to became higher and higher. Then it worked normally. Then it didn't. Then it did. Then it didn't. Very soon after, the timer began refusing to beep at all at any level of volume. I could feel that I would have to crank the time wheel up to a full 120 minutes, hear some kind of "click" like I was re-zeroing the mechanism, and then manually wind it down to get the beeping to activate again. Then it would work normally. Then it wouldn't. Then it would. Then it wouldn't. I let all this slide as I am a fairly easygoing person and I don't like leaving negative reviews. Until tonight, when I forgot about all this nonsense and had to use the Time Timer for something. Shenanigans again! Now I'm just mad. It is so ironic and to my mind, so totally unacceptable, to sell a device of such inferior quality which was designed with the specific intent of helping people improve their time awareness, punctuality and consistency. You totally missed the mark, Time Timer. I believed in you! Believed in myself... But now, you are just a very pricey and very wasteful investment in my very honest effort to bring order to my disorderly Millenial brain. For shame.

Perfect for students with special needs!
I was thrilled to have met the original creator of these Time Timer visual clocks this past November at the American Speech and Language Hearing Association convention in L.A. I have used the original 60 minute red timer since graduate school and found it to be extremely helpful when working with students with special needs, especially those on the Autism spectrum. I was able to get a glimpse of the newly designed visual timers in November at the convention and knew right away that the 20 minute timer would be a great addition for my practice. My sessions are often 20-25 minutes and the 60 minute timer tended to be a little overwhelming. I also like the 20 minute timer for quick 5 minute breaks that my students earn. The smaller timer means that it is a bit easier for the students to see time passing and the blue color is a lot more calming to look at then the red. The timer face is now covered with a piece of plastic for protection and my absolutely favorite feature is that there is now a volume control feature for our students who are sensitive to sounds. My only wish, and I did mention to the designer, is that the sound was not a "beep, beep, beep" noise. I wish it were a ding or something softer and less stressful. With all that being said, this is a MUST HAVE for special education classrooms! So versatile and effective!

Great easy to use timer. Prefer this simple functional piece to other more complicated pieces.
Easy to use timer. Getting some good benefits in using with my son. We previously have used the Tot Clock (http://www.amazon.com/My-Tot-Clock-Original/dp/B00FCC5E5M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1436389325&sr=8-3&keywords=tot+clock), but this is much simpler. Simpler works better with my son. He wants to play with the settings, and since there are only two, it isn't an issue. Providing him with this very visible countdown works well for setting aside time (cleaning, time out, etc.) and for letting him know when it is time to X (bed time, leave the house time, dinner time, etc.). It's not big or heavy and he can carry it, but it is big enough it doesn't easily get lost. The setting is easy, simply turn the dial on the face to set the time. The second setting is the volume of the alarm. This alarm won't get too loud, which can be an issue for us (tv being played at a high volume will drown the alarm) but that has more to do with us working on getting the tv to manageable levels. I can easily recommend this. It has helped our routines and has helped my son's grasp of what 5, 10 or 15 minutes means. The price isn't cheap, but the item seems sturdy and has certainly withstood some bumps and falls. I appreciate the clockwise action.

Quiet visual timer.
I wanted a timer that is quiet and this one fits the bill. It also has a volume control dial at the back when the alarm goes off. The manufacturer should consider using USB charger instead of batteries, which is a bit outdated. I will still give it a 5 stars. Other than that, the timer is well-made, nothing cheap about it.

Helps kids understand the abstract concept of time
I purchased this timer for my autistic son- I choose the 120min so I could use it to tell him how long he could watch tv for (one film). It has significantly reduced melt downs and it just lets him know what is going on. (I have to keep it out of reach though because he quickly learnt to add time on when I was out of sight 🤣)

Tägliche Nutzung
Der Preis ist sicherlich hoch angesetzt, aber dafür ist die Uhr auch sehr praktisch und zuverlässig.
