What kind of scale is "agate"?

THE AGATE LINE SCALE This unit of measure is normally known by the terms Agate or Agates. This is a unit of measure that was historically used to measure the depth (number of lines) of advertising columns in newspapers. There are 14 Agate lines in an inch. Been in printing for 43 years and never used it. You owe me a beer. :)

How wide is the actual ruler itself? Not at the widest point.

It is about 5 and 1/4 picas wide or 7/8th inch wide.
