I'm glad I watched videos to learn the best ways to use this. A piece of parchment paper laid over the top helps to keep them from cooking too fast and burning. I made mini chicken pot pies and I'm happy with the results. They are small, and would be great appetizers.

This product is how they must have coined the phrase "easy as pie". If you have ever made pies from scratch you know it isn't easy! This mini pie maker will save your dessert making forever! I used it to make mini pies for my mom's 70th birthday party and it was a breeze! You have to be careful not to get the bottom crust too thin or it breaks when you take it out. If your top and bottom dough aren't matching in size, the top will split off. I do recommend the egg wash, it seems to help keep them together better, but it's not a must. The must is making sure you have the top equal to the bottom circumference. I haven't used it for anything but pies, however there are lots of You Tube videos for other ideas! You won't be disappointed unless you get a defective product. LOVE mine so much!

Got my pie maker a few days ago and tested it this morning. I decided to go with two savory recipes - a sausage and country gravy pie and a cheeseburger pie. They turned out better than I expected they would so the operation of the machine itself is not a problem (the instructions say your first couple of pie batches are likely to be failures). My gripes are with the design of the machine and the lack of clear directions/instructions. First, the unit has no on/off switch - you plug it in when you're ready to start the cooking. Second, there are two lights on the lid (a green one and an orange one) but nothing in the instructions tell you what either of those lights mean. Third, the cord is hard-wired to the unit so you have the cord dragging behind you and/or getting in the way (why they didn't use a cord similar to an electric fry pan [plug the cord into the unit when you're ready to use it] is beyond me), Fourth, it's difficult to clean since neither of the plates are removable. Fifth, the instructions don't give any guidelines re: cooking time (I set the timer for my pies at 8 minutes but checked them at 6 and they were already slightly overdone). Sixth, the pastry cutter provided makes rounds that are too large for the spacing of the pie forms in the machine. Seventh, there are no instructions re: greasing the pie forms (I didn't and they came out of the form easily). The pies themselves are much smaller than they appear in the photos of the machine - they're less than 3 inches across and about an inch deep. Mine tasted okay given they were a bit overdone. I'll probably try a batch of sweet pies next and see how they turn out. However, given the cleaning hassle, I doubt this little kitchen toy will get a whole lot of use.

This works well with premade pie crust. This makes great mini snacks. You do need to pay attention to how long it cooks when you use different pie crusts. You will enjoy having this for quick snacks or mini dinners.

Without being able to control temperature, your food filling will be raw. Oh, you want it cooked, then your dough will burn. Tried mini quiche. Epic fail. You can't pre-cook the egg mixture so a longer cook time to firm up the egg results in burnt dough. If you can pre-cook the filling, then you should be OK... Kind of, because there's also no timer. It takes a lot of trial an error to figure out the exact timing for whatever you're making. Not worth the price of therapy.

I made mini pies for Thanksgiving and they were scrumptious. I used the dough recipe that came with the machine and it was flaky and buttery. I also used Phyllo dough and the came out crispy
