Great addition to the aviation curriculum!

The media could not be loaded. I teach high school aviation courses and just got these to include in the curriculum. It is a nice addition when talking about control surfaces and their impacts on flight. As the battery starts to drain, the airplane will stall, dive, and recover which leads to another discussion. I got the basic 2.0 kit. It came with a paper template for one model and then it had links to other models in the included paperwork. The students enjoyed comparing the performance of the models and troubleshooting each model when it didn't behave as desired.I will say that you should not be surprised when some struggle with the initial airplane folding. Even with video instructions, I had several get a bit frustrated with the folding. I do not see this as a bad thing. I want them to have the experience of following instructions and building something. If it leads to them having to learn to deal with productive struggle, even better. This is something that is missing in their lives as they do more and more in the virtual world. If you have students that you know will struggle with the folding for whatever reasons, the models do vary in difficulty so you can guide them to an appropriate plane.I used them for 2 sections for 3 periods. The battery packs are still performing well and all propellers are intact. I did have a student snap a stabilizer bar, but it is not crucial. There is a spare parts kit offered on their site that I will be getting in the future but had the student experiment with using a larger paperclip for the repair this time.In closing, I absolutely recommend these for class. I look forward to seeing what else we can bring out of their use of them. (The video is only 5 seconds of the 25-second flight.)

Provides tons of enjoyment, even if short lived

Bought this for my father who enjoys little engineering challenges like this. The motor works well and is very simple to use. It can be charged, flown, and discharged quickly and easily. The provided paper airplane plans will get you started but you'll definitely need to tweak the design to get a successful flight. Be ready to crash often while you perfect your design. That's part of the fun! An empty gymnasium or other large room is the perfect space in which to fly this. When we finally got our aircraft just right we were able to get over ten seconds of sustained flight. It isn't the most durable since it has to be so small and light to fly. Although it survived quite a few bad crashes my motor mount did eventually break. It may be fixable and mine did come with a spare propeller. Despite the break, I got more than my money's worth of enjoyment out of this little toy. I recommend it!

It's way more than a toy!

This is my 4th version in the PowerUp series. The first 2.0 I used as a gift for my grandkids and then I realized it was much more than a toy. I learned how to fold the plane using the enclosed template. Then I started customizing the paper airplane with my own artwork and messages using plain copy paper that I give or insert in the box. Using terms like, "You've reached new heights" for graduates, or "Congratulations on landing X as a new client", or "your support of our company has allowed us to soar", or "you are a great employee who has taken us to new heights.... for corporate clients. So many ideas if you let your imagination "fly"!!

Disappointed

Bought this for my son's birthday. Was a little disappointing how they work. Videos are elaborate and not very helpful

Waste of time/money

Very difficult to use, barely works. Performed one single flight out of 100+ throws and 10+ planes.

Very cool for learning about Aerodynamics

This is a very neat little toy.I know a lot of the others on here are having difficulty getting their planes to fly, but with basic understanding of Aerodynamic principals, you can get this propeller to carry a paper plane for a significant distance. If you build them right, you can get your designs to fly several hundred feet! The designs that come with the product don't always work amazingly well, so you should experiment with your own. It's key to get the largest wings possible to provide as much lift as possible since this propeller does not have an enormous amount of thrust. Then you also want to make sure your airplane's center of mass is in the correct spot, since if its too far back you will have your plane go straight up and dive, while if it's too far forward, it will dive straight off.Just like it says in the instructions, you want your plane to be able to fly well with the engine turned off, before you can expect it to fly well with the engine turned on.

Just doesn't quite fly very well

The motor just isn't quite powerful enough. Also hard to balance fore-aft, and if you add even a smidgeon of nose weight that extra weight will make it seem even more underpowered. It's a cool idea, and the paper airplane folding technique is probably the best flying paper airplane I've ever seen. But I could barely ever get even one good flight out of this. And I've made a lot of RC and rubber band and paper and flying plane models. I would say save your money and get some kind of cheap RC helo or something. They are positively amazing and make this look pretty quaint and frankly a bit lame.

Great idea and fun

Love the idea, especially with my adolescent grandson discovering physics and engineering the fun way. Keeps the airplane flying a long time, Easy to see the effect of design and small adjustments, trial and error. Gave it 5 for durability, keeping in mind that it crashes into the ground every time - this has yet to break. Good exercise is a given. Definitely gift-able to the right person. Thought it a bit pricey before playing with it, but changed my mind, it's a 5.
