NO LEAKS!! If using polypropylene fitting adapters, combining plumbers putty and tape

We DIY’d the replacement install of this upgraded whole house water filtration system. No fitting/adapters are included, normal practice, as everyone’s situation is unique. The instructions did not specify a preferential material type of fitting adapter/s. Just that the system was a 1” female and in our case we needed to adapt to 3/4” home pex plumbing. The first 2 times attempting install, we used metal adapter/fittings, both times the system leaked. The metal also caused the female threaded area in the unit, to shed a small amount of plastic with each install. First install attempt we used plumber’s tape wrapped around male threads 10 times, as the instructions recommended. For the second install attempt, we used plumber’s putty, it still leaked.Determined to stop the leaking, I searched on you tube for install video’s. One video showed this exact system and they used polypropylene adapter fitting. So here on Amazon, I found a heavy duty polypropylene hose fitting that adapted from the 1” to 3/4” (Banjo HB100-075 Polypropylene adapter). They worked great with both the system and our Pex plumbing. Used a heat gun to soften the Pex, then pushed the Pex into the barbed 3/4” end. Allowed it to cool down.On the adapter’s male threaded end, we applied plumber’s putty to the threads, added 4-5 turns of plumber’s tape and ended with a thin layer of more plumber’s putty, (over top of the tape). The putty helped the plumber’s tape to adhere much better than usual. We then ended with a small amount of plumber’s putty over top of the tape. In the system housing on the 1” female thread area, we applied a small amount of plumber’s putty. After hand installing the fitting adapter into the unit, we used a metal adjustable wrench to tighten it down.It took “3rd times a charm” but we are now very happy with this system. We have a high iron content (16ppm) and so far, the system seems to be working out great!! It is much better than the single unit we replaced. If I can figure it out, I will update this review on how long these filters last. If they don’t last long enough, I will upgrade to the better filters available. This will help extend time between filter replacements.Just a side note: I also learned from the YouTube video, to use a “food grade” lubricant/grease on the large O-rings. It will allow less friction on the ring, therefore allowing the ring to last longer. There are two O-rings on each filter casing. The top one comes off easy, so the whole ring could be coated. The bottom ring is tight, so I did not remove it. I applied the lubricant just on the exposed part of this O-ring.Hope this information makes everyone’s install experience so much easier. Use polypropylene fittings/adapters ONLY, NOT METAL!! Also use both the combination of plumber’s putty and tape!!

Does the job I was hoping for!

I bought the Waterdrop Whole House Water Filter System, Reduce Iron & Manganese, with Carbon and Sediment Filters, 5-Stage Filtration, Reduce Iron, Lead, Chlorine, Odor, 2-Stage WD-WHF21-FG, 1" Inlet/Outlet and it has done a fantastic job in removing the iron from our water. We did leave the string wound whole house water filter in place before the waterdrop system to help get some sediment out before it gets to the waterdrop system. I no longer have iron streaks in our toilet bowls! Our water is beautiful!

Good for the price

The first one was leaking from the inlet port , got a replacement and was leaking from the pressure release button and outlet and inlet ports, INSTRUCTIONS SAY AT LEAST TEN TURNS OF TEFLON, I did 18 turns on each side plus Blue monster Pipe dope, no more leaks after that, water taste good and the pressure it’s really good , I cause headaches because leaks a lot but you can fix it , it worth the money, easy to install and works perfect , I recommend bypass valves before and after the housing

Working great so far

We were having problems with rust/iron and odor coming from our well water even though we have a water softner. We tried iron out and other things but nothing seen to help. Since my husband installed this filter the water odor is gone. I'll have to clean the rust lines out of our tiolet bowl and wait to see if the rust is gone but everything seems to be working great.

Crystal clear water with a hitch

Works too good, we have a well and there’s a lot of minerals in our water. This system captures 99% of the sediment and causes the water pressure to decrease. I’m constantly having to purge the system and clean the filters.

Difficult to install

Decent looking water filter, don't know how well it works yet as it took 3 tries to get the inlet side not to leak. I have 40 years of contracting experience so I do not recommend the average do it yourselfer tries this unless you understand the following. There are treaded female plastic ports on the inlet/outlet side, buy two brass 1" dia male NPT fittings, they will be 3/4 " long where they go inside the female treaded port, seller recommends at least 10 wraps, on third try I used 18 wraps of Teflon tape, seller says do not over tighten, I recommend tighten down until the nut part of the 1" fitting is about 1/16 to 1/8" from the face of the plastic female opening (this female opening is 1" deep and the treads on the male fitting are only 3/4" deep however seller states the female threaded area is tapered (see photo with directions) so one should not over tighten. So toward the end of tightening go slow, you should still see about 1/8" of the white teflon tape showing around the male fitting (only my estimate) this is your stopping point. I used one inch PEX pipe with ball valve shut offs and a bypass valve in case I want to water the lawn. On try number two I used Teflon plumbers dope (did not work at all) on third try went back to tape and put 18 wraps, each fix had to cut off the PEX rings and redo that part, so use a ton of tape and tighten down till all but 1/8" is showing if you use a fitting with male threads 3/4" long, good luck.

Fantastic product

Fantastic product. I was shocked to see the filters after 6 months. Incredible what the water company deem is "safe". The filters came out almost black looking. Definitely keeping alot out of the house system and prevents sediment in appliances.
