Very good and even sound if installed correctly!

Without a doubt the most natural sounding system I tried except for microphones.Build quality is solid except for the Jack socket which is a bit flimsy, but for this price it's reasonable.Wires are too short if you want to connect to an inbuilt EQ like Belcat. I had to solder on an extension, but I had to clip of the socket anyway so no big deal.A warning. If you are not comfortable and proficient with delicate, precise and pretty awkward installation jobs on very expensive equipment, please hire a guy that is!Or install it on a cheap instrument first and if it worked out well and you like it, buy another pickup set.Tip 1. Don't glue them in place immediately. Use very thin double sided tape first and practice placing the pickups until you can do it effortlessly. This also allows you to listen to them and find the best spot.On my guitar I tried several times with tape and because my guitar is quite strong in bass, I decided to place that pickup two mm further away from the sweet spot than the other two.Tip 2. Once you are ready to use superglue, put only a tiny drop of it. I'd rather have them fall off because it's not enough than to not be able to remove them.Tip 3. Experiment with a brand new set of strings! If you do it with very old ones and they sound even, you might not be so happy when you install a new set later on.Tip.4 VERY IMPORTANTWhen it's time to drill a hole for the socket, (instead of ripping a hole), use a brand new wood drill bit.Don't use an old one and do not ever use a drill bit for metal! And go slow! Oh, and don't push! Let the drill slowly go through.Tip.5 put some cloth or towels under and over your instrument to avoid damaging it.Tip.6 The wires from the pickup to the socket are ridiculously short. If you plan to connect the pickups to a belcat like I did, or similar internal equalizer, be prepared to strip wires and solder on an extension.I already suggested to the owner of Journey Instruments to make the wires 10cm longer. That's it.A 500£ sound for only 50£.Even if you spend another 50£ on a professional luthier, it's still amazing value. Most natural sounding pick-ups on the market today.Good luck.

Impressive and comparable to higher price solutions

Impressive sound and good volume. Sounds at least as good as my other guitar with more expensive LRBaggs under-saddle. Watch the installation video and go for it. Make sure you have a 12mm drill to reach the inside of the guitar once you have made the hole on the outside. Don’t use the normal wood drill bit for the outside or you risk damaging the wood and finish.

Pick up

I have this in my Taylor Eastman and D28 replaced the Anthem in the D 28 for this it's less intrusive light weight no under saddle elements killing tone and just as good or Walmer than the k n k which is 100 bucks more 😉 the secret is with these type of puck ups is a good pre amp do your tone shaping outside of the Guitar keeping the Guitar light and Natural not ramming tons of stuff inside adding weight etc 😉

very good acoustic sound

I installed it on Larrive P05, a small guitar. It takes time and not easy to install, and I broken the guitar bottom output hole little bit. But the sound is really good. it worth a try. Especially, it do not need battery

good value for the money

Put in my Recording King RO27 to replace my Fishman cross hole pickupevery bit as good if not better! no batteries required for a passive pickupevery bit as loud.

Questionable build quality

First impressions, dubious of build quality. Just all feels a bit 'knocked up on some blokes kitchen table'. And maybe it is, just would be nice if it seemed higher quality for £50. I'll try the install though and update the review when done.UPDATE:Installed it. Had to install without the sheath that protects the circuit board as the jack input wasn't long enough to go through my guitar wall with it on. My guitar is a custom build (very talented family member!) so the thickness of the wall may not be standard. I shouldn't think this will be a problem though as nothing will be able to touch the circuitry when inside the guitar. Tested it all last night and sounded pretty great, though this is only my second guitar with a pick up, the first being a cheap Fender (also my first self-installation) so I don't have much to compare to. Overall, happy with result, but feel £50 feels a bit steep for what appears to be a very simple product. I know you can spend much more on pick ups, but I guess they are just all a ripoff!

In my experience not for every acoustic guitar..

I looked forward to fitting the Journey Instruments Passive Piezo Acoustic Pickups – EP001K to my Eastman E10 OM and followed the instructions carefully, glueing the pickups in place with Loctite super glue gel. Unfortunately the 'bass' pickup was twice as loud as the other two, and whether that was up to the guitar itself (a 'nodal point"?) or the pickup I'll never know. Whichever way, the pickup system was unplayable and the superglued 'bass' pickup was impossible to remove, despite some seemingly impractical instructions from Journey Instruments. Now I have just the two piezo pieces in the guitar, having had to disconnect the 'bass' piezo, on the middle and treble spaces under the bridge. They don't sound great, but I'm just putting them through an Boss Equaliser (essential) rather than a preamp at the mo, which I dont think I'll be investing in.So my conclusion is that, although the Journey Instruments Passive Piezo Acoustic Pickups – EP001K may be perfectly OK on some guitars it wasn't on mine, and there was no way back once I had discovered that. I can't even return the item, it being stuck so firmly inside my guitar and not anything I can or want to use! My advice would be to think carefully before going down this road of amplifying your acoustic, because even if fitted properly the finished result on your particular guitar may not meet your expectations. Maybe I have been unlucky, with my guitar OR the Journey Instruments Passive Piezo Acoustic Pickups – EP001K OR the combination of the two. I hope that helps when considering which way to amplify your acoustic guitar.
