Homerun

The most progressive sounding JP album to date due to its many composite musical components to every track: all the tunes are extensively well developed to the nth degree, even when it does it riff heavy and rhythm dependent. A plethora of metal guitars most of the time, occasional deep riffs and rhythm elsewhere.Rob Halford is a soulful metal screamer on a number of tracks, similar to 2005 Angel of Retribution theatrical metal screaming in sound at time. I hear "Battle Cry" from 2014 album Reedemer of Souls (on the track "Trail By Fire") a wake-up call anthem of sorts. Whereas Firepower was a bit more rugged and macho on average, like a freight train of energy, Invincible Shield generally seems more in nature as that of an eagle, soaring in the sky for fans to admires (then it swoops down on the spectators with blistering energy, a raptor embodied with guitar mayhem, metal screaming, and occasionally, deep hooks. The opener "Panic Attack" starts slow with a pleasant Turbo like metal synthesizer intro before the album bursts out in frantic pace. Besides the singles-video-productions, which are all good to my ears, the tunes that I like best all have an irresistible catch to them, the vocals (though not as soulful on these several super catchy tracks) really sounds super cool, with some sort of chorus affect seemingly processed through them. I'm talking about the irresistibly catchy hooks of "Gates of Hell", "Sons of Thunder" and "Escape From Reality". i would have definitely chosen to single out as the best of the best to make band videos with. As for a metal speed song, I really really like "As God is my Witness" to my ears it's another take on 1988 Ram It Down's "Hard As Iron" (my favorite track from JP's most underrated album imo). The title track and "The Serpent and the King" and "Devil in Disguise" and "Giants In the Sky" (final track) both easily sounds like a missing tracks from Firepower, except that Giants has a youthful sounding Rob Halford section shift into ballad mode for a brief venture into Sad Wings of Destiny album territory (their second release of the 70s) and he does so with convincing soul despite almost 50 years later.Overall, the album sounds good quickly, much like Redeemer of Souls did for my ears, but unlike that album, this music is more complex, and keeps growing like a vintage wine. It should stand the test of time as metal maniacs discover that the sharpest hooks are those currently considered deep cuts. It's a pure metal masterpiece worthy of a music collection that needs a modern metal example, and definitely mandatory for every Priest fan (except perhaps those who only accept their early works).Invincible Shield = A++

Judas Priest - back to the '80's !!

Wow. This album 'delivers the goods'! The sound is clean and crisp, so if they did a lot of production and altering sound for vocals etc. I couldn't tell. All the tracks rock, minus a couple slower songs, but they aren't sappy ballads. Also Priest stayed true to their roots on this, there isn't country, rap, dance or pop nuances (though panic attack has a cool synthesized opening). Refreshing. Glad I purchased the CD with extra tracks as well !

GREAT offering by the Legendary Priest!

This is a true, hard-driving, kick-butt album and I only have one negative thing to say: it's too much! I have been a JP fan since the early 80's, having lost my metal virginity to the iconic "Stained Glass" on a merry head trip with my high school buddy, and own nearly every Priest album as a result (even having played a fair shake of their repertoire in my Icelandic military band "Joker," back in the early 90's).So what do I mean by "It's too much?" The band proudly introduced the album as not having any ballads which would be OK if they compensated with some slower songs (like Fever, from Screaming for Vengeance). The result of keeping the pedal down for the entire album is that, to this 59 year old's ears, becomes fatiguing (I literally have to give listening a break about 2/3rds in, every time). That is the only complaint. The guitar work, vocals, drums and bass sound as good as they ever were and Rob's voice is simply amazing, despite the fact that he is in his 70's!If you are a Judasizer, you won't be disappointed.

Heavy Metal that sets the new bar!

I just wanted to mention how awesome this release is! I have been a Judas Priest fan since their first albums and this is indeed a masterpiece! Judas Priest has always managed to put something fresh out but yet be recognized as the same band somehow. That takes some doing but they do it as one of the best. This album has all the elements of the carrier but manages somehow to be fresh. When you hear it you'll know where I'm coming from. If you are a long time fan you will notice very early classic elements and you will hear the height of popularity hooks that grab you along with the very heavy elements of later releases. Rob Halford sounds amazing on vocals as we have all known him for and the band is very tight providing tons of head banging Heavy Metal from every molten track. The production sound quality is incredible which is powerful and crystal clear. If you are thinking of getting this release I would suggest to just do it. I am going to add that I actually liked this so much that when I heard of the deluxe edition that has 3 more tracks I tracked one down elsewhere as Amazon did not have it and bought it today which was the day after I got this pre-ordered CD. That should give you an idea how good it is. This sets a new bar for a Heavy Metal album in my eyes and will easily be one of or the best of 2024. Saxon's album Hellfire and Damnation is the other top notch Heavy Metal release of the year. Invincible Shield is definitely as good as my favorite classic JP releases and one of the top notch all time Heavy Metal as well! Crank it!
