Please READ this review!
This product does not have the expected consistency of a gel. When you get it, even if you shake it, it will remain more watery. This part is important: STIR the “gel” thoroughly—part of the thicker ingredients will still be clinging to the bottom of the container. With this done, it will still be a watery-paste, but it works! It actually works faster than the regular formulation. If you want to leave some if the age of the surface I recommend re-brushing the item every 15 minutes, so it doesn't settle in one area and to check the progress. Since I do want to retain some surface age, I will wipe and rinse the item throughly and let it dry to see the progress. It is a small bottle but it does go a long way towards many smaller projects.

JUNK!
Wish I could give this stuff NO STARS!I was fooled by the pic and didn't pay attention to 8oz in description. This is a TINY bottle, it's expensive AND it does not work! At least not for me.My bottle was NOT a gel. I shook the container well, opened it and poured some into a tray. It was clear like water, same viscosity also. Smells nasty. Then I shook it again it felt weird like something was still in the bottle. I sueezed it over the tray and this white glop began oozing out. It felt like soaked cotton. I literally pulled it out with my fingers, puzzled. This was NOT gel! Looked just like one of the review pictures. Was I supposed to pull this cotten out? What is this? Nothing on label about it.I had a couple lightly rusted Starrett tools. I put them in the liquid and covered them in the cotton goop. Left them soaking over 7 hours. They still have rust on them! I estimate it took off about 15%. The majority of the rust did not dissolve and their was not a lot of heavy rust. The tools were submerged.Have to try something else! This Evapo-Rust is:1. WAY WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for what you get! Picture is misleading!2. GOOP or soaked cotton in bottle. IT IS NOT GEL you can apply with a brush! DOES NOT cling to vertical surfaces as stated. Mine was clear liquid that looked like water and smelled horrible.3. CRC <- Decent name, I love their Brake Cleaner but not Evapo-Rust.I expected more from CRC.Didn't work for me! Will never buy again and I DO NOT recommend it. I'm leary of buying any other CRC product.

5+ Stars - it does what it says it will do.
Use this on anything rusty that can soak overnight and the rust disappears. Awesome stuff and can be poured in a container and reused. Soaked rusty screws, bolts, lug nuts, tools, etc. and it's as effective as it claims. They make a product for vertical surfaces and I will try that too.

Does remove and treat rust, but test an area if used it on a plated or galvanized surface.
It does what it claims to do and is the gel form so it clings fairly will. But definitely do a sample test area, particularly is the rust is on a galvanized item, because it did remove some of the galvanizing on some galvanized boat trailer rims. But generally, this product has worked well for me on most everything else to remove and treat rust, but never used on a rusty galvanized surface until now.

The BEST!
This stuff is amazing!!! Saw this on Youtube and if you do research you will find this stuff is the best little secret out there. Totally non-toxic and safe for the environment. Reusable. And, if you collect items which have been misused over the years and you want to restore them without damaging the item....this is it! My family has used this for old tools (we found an old axe-head belonging to a family member which was badly neglected with rust and other debris0let it soak over night in the stuff-it has the consistency of water-in a plastic bucket. The next day it got wiped over with a cloth rag and we could easily read the maker's marks and see where it had been burnished for tempering. It now has a new handle and is a family showpiece! No scraping, grinding, etc.!!! Also a friend used some we gave them for parts for a WW1 Eddystone rifle which was seized up from rust....it no longer is seized up and the parts have a beautiful patina that could not be seen before! And the stuff can be saved and used over-and-over up to 60 times!! Just pour it back into its container, being careful not to save the rust residue laying on the bottom of the container you did the "de-rusting" in! Many people in hardware stores don't know anything about this stuff until I showed them what it could do. Now they are all buying some for home projects. Oh, and it comes in a gel form too if you have something rusty that you cannot douse into a bucket-like a camshaft, etc. And there is also a rust-inhibiter you can dab on after the process to retard the rust from coming back

Arrived DOA - Defective product
This item was defective. Either it sat for too long or the mix was incorrect. It arrive not in GEL form but liquid form with all the "Gel" sitting at the bottom of the container. It was not an issue of just mixing it up because I tried that for 4 minutes straight and it returned to its liquid form. So tired of getting inferior products from Amazon that require my extra attention rather than just finishing the job at hand. Next time I am just going to go to Home Depot because I know the products are good.
