Buy it with confidence.

I bought the 4” and this little guy punches way above its price point. Packing grease cleaned up easily. I actually had to mount it twice. It comes with slot keys that were too wide for my mill table slots. So I mounted and trued it up. Then milled off .020” off each side of the keys. ( only the potion that’s in the slots). I removed the vise and installed the keys. It fit the slots perfect.I then reinstalled it again. I was able to dial it in to less than .0002” runout side to side. I then milled a slot in a scope base. This vise held the part secure and the slot came out perfect.I highly recommend this vise. I’m using it on Grizzly G0759 bench mill.

Glad I took a chance!

Really good for the price. Wish I could afford a “Kurt,” but I can’t. And as a hobbyist, I would be overkill. For the price, I could give it five stars, but I took one off due to the need to take it completely apart to clean and file (or sand) down the razor sharp edges. I knew this was needed from watching YouTube reviews. I’m sure this is one of the ways they keep the price down. I used a good test indicator across the machined surfaces and it checked out very well. Vice jaw opening is more than advertised and I the rear jaw can be moved to the back to hold a piece around 12 inches. This is not just a “first impression.” I have used it on my “old but rebuilt” Bridgeport J-head mill, and am pleased with its performance. My only complaint is the sloppy handle. The socket end fits fine. It is the pivot part that is sloppy. I’m sure all the lesser priced vise manufacturers buy the same sloppy vice handle for a couple of dollars. I will either make a new one, or buy one of the combo speed handles. Don’t let that deter you. The handle is functional, just not the quality I want, but the vice is still a great value.

Good vise for the money

I wouldn't trust it on a CNC machining center, but it works very well on a bench

Excellent for the price. Better with some simple mods.

The 6" vise is surprisingly good for $100. It's definitely no Kurt DX6, but it's almost 1/7th the cost.A couple things to note though:The bottom edges and jaws have some very sharp edges. I hit all bottom edges with a quick file to get things a little safer. I'd recommend stoning the bottom too, if you have one, after the filing. The jaws are also very sharp, and got a similar treatment.A very important observation, this vise is not compatible with standard 6" jaws that would work with Kurt vises. The attachment bolts are M8 instead of 1/2" and are positioned too low to use other jaws without modifying the other jaws. I needed to make some custom soft jaws for this vice, the Kurt ones just will not fit. Finally, the hex for the handle on the leadscrew is not a standard 3/4", rather it appears to be larger, more like 20mm. This doesn't matter too much except my other vise handles and speed wrenches won't fit.I ended up removing the leadscrew, champing it in vise jaws I have for machining hex bar stock, and brought the size down to a proper 3/4" so all of my other wrenches fit. I'm not sure if all of these are like this or just the one I received.Overall, I'm very happy with this vise. Very surprised. I'll update this if I see any issues with longevity.

Careful: razor sharp edges!

The vise arrived today in a fairly beat-up box. Inside, the vise is shipped upside-down in protective styrofoam. But there was nothing protecting the vise base (at the top, as it's upside-down)! And there's a good inch of air space between that vice bottom surface and the inside top of the box, so I'm guessing that there SHOULD be styrofoam there. Perhaps this was a returned unit, re-shipped. Thankfully, despite the lack of protection of the banged-up box, the base surface seems OK. Just a few nicks that should stone out. While lifting the vice out of the box, I gave myself quite a nasty cut on my left index finger, right across the inside knuckle. After finally staunching the bleeding and getting back to the vice, I found (carefully this time!) that almost all of the top surfaces have razor-sharp edges. Nothing is deburred or filed or chamfered. So beware! I took a good file to all of the edges to knock them down. The vice itself seems really well made (apart from the lack of deburring), heavy and very solid. The mechanism is taught but slides well, with no grittiness. There's no sign of rust, and the paint is applied well. The jaws are 5 1/16 inch wide and it opens to 5 15/16 (not quite 6) inches. The supplied handle is pretty basic, and I'll probably make another myself. The "grade 8" bolts supplied seem OK but I'll probably not trust/use them. And one of the two supplied washers is D-shaped (manufacturing defect). No big deal.I don't know why all vices of this design tend to waste vertical real-estate, when every 1/4 inch of Z travel on a small hobby mill is precious. The base on this could easily be 1/2 inch thinner with no loss of utility. In summary: it's a good solid vice, good value, and there's a good chance that I'll buy another. But I'm knocking off 2 stars because of the poor packaging and my blood loss.

Good solid vise

Seems like a good vise. Came well packged with styrofoam around it. Seems they took heed of previous comments because there were no sharp edges anywhere. No paint overspray and I could operate vise with my fingers right out of the box. Only problem was the blocks that fit on the bottom to locate in the table slots could not be screwed on. The threaded holes in the vise body were drilled off center and I could not put in the attaching screws. Easy enough fix, but !! Overall I am satisfied. After all, it didn't cost $600.
